I camped with my family from a very young age and loved it,often going back to the same site every year. We all used to go ,grandparents in a camperva, aunts, uncles and cousins in tents. Most summer holidays we stayed for almost the six weeks, dad return for work during the week, leaving us there with mum, brother ,nan and grandad (they had a campervan) so we still had transport...we loved it, many an afternoon playing rounders or rolling down the hill in a big black inflatable tube, catching eels or just on the beach...happy days! Infact it was the first site i took oh and son to for our first camping trip and nothing much has changed....the site is in Barmouth north wales.

I never camped with my folks as we had a narrowboat so spent all year cruising up and down the canals & rivers but that definitely gave me a real taste of outdoors life.  However, I used to go camping with the guides in green canvas ridge tents which we had to roll up the sides & lift the groundsheet every morning, lash 3 bits of wood to make a washing tripod & campfire songs (I used to love that bit) all the candles & hot choc whilst creating a great deal of noise pollution.  As a teenager I went on a good few camping holidays with a neighbouring family - well I say camping they had the caravan & their daughter & I shared a ridge tent.  I remember one such holiday we went to a fantastic riverside site in Hurley on Thames for 3 weeks, we got up to all sorts of mischief on that holiday!  Later the 2 man festival camp in the early 90s at Reading when it decided to absolutely lash down & straight through my poor little tent completely flooding it so I had to sleep in my beetle for the rest of the weekend.  Didn't put me off though I just have a few more home comforts these days!

I started camping with my mum dad and brother when I was 3 until about 8 and then they went to the otherside and bought a caravan which I went in with them until I was about 17. I have great memories of going away with all my cousins pretending we were the famous 5 or such like.

One of the earliest memories I have was from the 1st time we camped when we woke up and the tent had leaked and our airbeds were floating in a couple of inches of water.

Didn't put me off though - still love camping

I never camped as a child, in fact I was over 40 before I ever slept in a tent. My sisters had been avid campers for years and I always insisted that I would hate it. I was finally persuaded by my children that we should give it a try. We borrowed every last piece of equipment, including 2 small tents. and Guess What - I loved it!

We now have 3 of our own tents and camp as often as we can each summer. It is a shame I did not give it a go years ago.
