You could always do Ben Nevis via the Carn Mor Dearg arete. It gets you away from the hordes on the tourist path and is a much more interesting route. Although longer it doesn't feel much longer because it is much more interesting with views of the massive Northen cliffs. I found the main difficulty was crossing the stream to get to the ridge.

Hey thanks for that! Looks easier than crib goch? Have you done both aretes?
:-)
------------- Aug - Parkers Farm, Dartmoor
Sep - Llanberis, Snowdon
Yes, but I have done crib goch many times but the CMD arete only once. The CMD arete seemed a great deal easier and less exposed, but I had done the aonach eagach ridge a couple of days before which was quite a lot harder than crib goch - lots of pinnacles. Doing the CMD arete shortly after that may have made it seem easier.
Respect to you! Crib Goch is far too scary for me, I am a proper wuss and no way could I have managed that without ropes!
