One last question (sorry!). The skirt around the botton is torn in one part, and the eyelets (for the pegs) have torn in a couple of places. What is it best to do? I thought about fixing with tape, but DH thinks we should go to specialist shop and see if they could do a repair.

Tenatious tape and/or clingons - clingons will well...cling on...to the skirt and you could add a pegging rubber to peg down - it probably saves trying to put eyelets back in.

Merry had a tent repaired recently and was impressed with the service if you want to try a professional repair.

Val's spot on as always but I'm sure when she says "clean" car sponge she in fact means new car sponge so that you can be certain there's no detergent on it at all.

Yes, you're right, I buy a new one every year and rinse it first out in case there's any factory gubbins on it. But I don't buy a new one every time I wash the tent tbh...I rinse and dry it out and keep it in a bag with the tent kit. I don't wash my car with a sponge (car wash instead) so there's no chance of cross contamination.

Im thinking the same with my newly aquired Cabanon but have read that they are like rocking horse poo! Bet theres loads lying around in atticks etc somewhere waiting to be dug out and donated to us
