I use plastic backed picnic rugs underneath and roll mats on top. This seems to work fine but not been camping when it's REALLY cold. Yet.....

We put roll mats underneath. But we've had no luck with these PVC airbeds so we gave up and just use the roll mats. As we're not getting any younger I think we're on the lookout for a couple of SIMs.
Queen sized double height airbed
on top of that we have a colemans hampton sleeping bag completely laid out soft side upwards, then a flannelette sheet, and then another flannelette sheet, we sandwich ourselves in between them. Then my huge 15tog feather duvet which I won't be without even if it does take up half the car. Which reminds me to buy some vacuum bags lol.
Never been cold with that set up, when we were using sleeping bags I almost hated it. The kids on the other hand love being in the sleeping bags and won't let me put duvets on them!

Wow! Alot of responses. Lol!
Well, we went camping at the weekend and we didn't put anything under the bed, but did put a double sleeping bag in-between us and the air bed. And a 15 tog king size duvet on top... I was wearing jogging bottoms, t-shirt and hooded fleece and a hat, I was still cold. Soooo, due to that. I am now pondering the fleece bed topper and the underlay foam. Also, I'm going to just have the double sleeping bag for me and my OH will have one for himself too. With the duvet on top. I'm fine in the cold till it comes to bed time and even in the summer (and living in Greece) I need a 15tog duvet. I like my heat.
Thanks alot for the responses.
We're going away again this weekend so I'll post up what we did and whether it worked or not. I want to sleep like a teenager again!!
Also, when I camped in Dec 09, I used an electric blanket to keep me warm.
I sandwiched the blanket between a fleece blanket placed on top of the blow up bed and the sheet.
It is one of those that can be washed in the washing machine.
Not everyone would agree it is a good idea to use an electric underblanket due to safety concerns, however, I used one and lived to tell the tale.

I agree use an electric under blanket dreamland are brilliant can leave it on all night! variable temp. Forget wasting all that energy with a fan heater an electric blanket is low wattage and the heat is exactly where you need it.

My best tip for cosy, toasty nights is not to get cold before you go to bed;
As soon as we've had our evening meal, we put our nightclothes on and stick hot water bottles inside our dressing gowns. Spending the evening like this, we don't have that cold undressing shock before sleep that's so hard to recover from if your bedding's not quite right.
