In answer to what's wrong with 8" wheels, absolutley nothing, as I never stated that there was anything wrong with them, but just that I would not use a trailer fitted with them.
It's just a personal choice, and my reasons are, a larger wheel does not put as much wear on the bearings, some 8" tyres are only rated to 60mph, when you get to a certain size of trailer, you often find the wheel of choice is either 10" or better still 13".
For me I feel more comfortable towing my half ton 13inch wheel trailer along at 81mph for a good 1500 miles in France, than I would if it was fitted with 8" wheels.

I've towed trailers with small wheels, I've towed trailers with 13 inch wheels and now I tow a trailer with 16 inch Land Rover wheels and proper suspension.....and after experiencing the smoothness and effortless towing of this big beast, I ain't never going back :) What I really don't like about small wheels and rubbish suspension is the way they make the trailer all fidgety, and the first trailer I had with very small wheels ate a bearing proper big time on the Mway up to Scotland and it turned my trip into a right pain. Of course, bearings can go on any trailer, but if you've got bigger wheels they'll last longer.
Whatever size trailer you get though, it could always do with being bigger. My widetrack Sankey Wolf tub is approx 1.7m wide, 2m long, and I stuff it with a bell tent, a tipi, 5 folding chairs, 5 sleeping bags, self-inflating mat, boxes of food and cooking gear, BBQ, some bags of wood, jerry can for water, petrol can, clothing.....just for a few days, and still ended up putting guitar, tennis racquets and kids in the Jeep as there was no room left for them!
