I definitely feel like I have the confidence to go again, Kiera was so well behaved and luckily she doesn't mind lots of walking! The site had everything I needed, even a takeaway! So I really didn't need to worry about not having a car after all!
It was also my first time in my new tent, and I'm pleased to say it went really well (just submitted a review) it stood up to the weather brilliantly. It was very homey, but not quite homey enough... needs a better light, something warm, not clinical white like the one I've got! Loved the amount of space we had too, but if I'm honest, I'd need to get something I can put up myself if we were going to go alone!
Eileenhoops, I went to Holmesley loads as a kid and this was my third time as an adult and this was the first time I'd found the stream! It was because of a site review on here I knew there was one to find! It's in the wooded area behind the playground, between two of the washblocks. It's only a trickle on the site, but if you follow it off the site it gets wider and deeper, it made a nice afternoon walk!
Well done you! You've just banked some very happy memories for your little girl to look back on fondly when she's older, not to mention setting the great example of facing your fears and going for it . Lovely!
Thanks everyone!! It really was worth it and she's already asked when we're going again, she seemed disappointed when I told her it wouldn't be unti next year (me too to be honest!!) Sunshinecamper, Holmesley is a fantastic site, but I'd definitely recommend avoiding the summer holidays! It's not that bad, but we went during the last half term break and it was much better then.
I didn't want one of the 'blue' led lights - thought it would make the tent too light when our 1 year old was asleep, so i went to a little hardware store we have locally and bought a clip on light, and just popped a really low watt energy saving bulb in it. it just looks like the inner bit of a lamp with a white plastic clip, and a hole for hanging it up - gives a lovely 'yellow' soft light, and was £3.45!
we can't really go again until next year either, but i think i shall be booking ssoon, and will take advantage of any warm spring weekends :)
my 5 year old loved camping too! i might just take the tent out in the garden one night before she goes back to school, and Amy and daddy can stay indoors. xx
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
