We have a Hartford XXL and find it dead easy to erect. However, the first time we erected it we didnt get the inner shape aligned correctly, as previously pointed out. Im sure this must be your problem. Make sure that each compartment is completely flat and lays at the right angle. This takes a little bit of time, but is worth getting right as it makes putting on the outer so much easier. The only other tip I can give you is to get someone to stand inside the tent, and get them to tell you which way to pull the corners when pegging them - that way you know the inside of each compartment is still flat. I hope you know what I mean!!!!
Re the porch collapsing inwards - did you use the poles to keep the porch rigid? You should have a 3 pole assembly the middle part of which threads into a horizontal sleave in the top part of the porch. The other two pieces are uprights (they each have a black piece of molded plastic on the end). Hope this helps.
