yep picnic mats are definately on the list, will need to make my mind up about the type of bed though pretty soon as camping at Whit, cant wait, first trip this year, first of many I hope.
Let me know which one you decide to go for Liddenham. As for the dampness, have you thought about incontinence pads
How about an inflatable mattress on top of the campbed. Without the mattress it hurts my back, but with it, haaaaa.... comfort! Also no crawling around on the floor. Oh, but don't forget the picnic rug under the lot though.
I suffered with my back when sleeping on an airbed, so I bought campbeds and found them to be much better. However, they're no good at all if you like to snuggle up close with someone, so I bought a double Coleman airbed and used it for the first time this last weekend for three nights. I did get the sense that it would make me seasick, it was very bouncy and not at all easy to move around on when crawling in on my knees, getting dressed etc. but, it was very comfortable to lie on, and my back was absolutely fine! So, I'd say, personally, that both the camp bed and the Coleman airbed are easy on the back, it just depends on whether you'll be sleeping alone or not as to which is best.

if your thinking of those campbeds with the 4 wire legs Id think again the ones Ive got you could put your back out trying to get the legs in and out of the things.

I think the above sounds like a recipe for disaster. Thinking high rise flats here!!!. Does the airbed not move around on top of the camp bed????
Anyway I'll let you know what option I finally decide to go for after our first camping trip in a few weeks.
Just before I go my OH has decided to buy some cheap sleeping bags from Morrisons, they don't seem very thick to me, think I might need a liner in mine, OH said if I have enough to drink I won't need a liner, who's he kidding!!! Anybody else seen these bags?
ok how about picnic rug > campbed > mattress > make yourself comfy in your sleeping bag then get the OH to bungee cord you to the whole lot,... ok might have a problem if you need to use the loo in the middle of the night .. but at least you wont roll out of bed.
The self inflating mattress is only 5cms thick, so there is no danger of it sliding off. I agree that with a normal air bed it would be a bit dicey. Lol.Have fun, whatever you choose.

Personally reckon that cheapo bags, like cheapo tents, are a false economy, but we do use them on top of the airbeds, under the sheets, for insulation (they roll up to nothing, so easy enough to take). Did your OH buy them?
Go for a good camp bed,the wife's back is about as bad is it can get and now uses a camp bed with a slightly underflated mattress and gets a perfect nights sleep
