Not to put a damper on everything but just because someone is a camper doesn't mean they aren't a thief. Dont leave anything lying around that is valuable / irreplaceable / sentimental value (wife, husband) when you are not there. Lock it in the car or take it with you.
Saying that I've never had any trouble.
Did get a pair of underpants pinched once while on an Outward Bound course, but that could almost have been a favour too me.

jarm, enjoy your time and trust in your fellow campers, if people are that determined of course they will take your belongings, a stanley blade overcomes zip locks, but bolt cutters overcome wheel clamps... honesty is the name of the game of all on this site and the majority at camp sites who look out for eachother, so rest assured you will be safe and enjoy your time !
-- you'll find a "security peg" system. Anyone wanting to steal the tent itself would either need to dig out long pegs, or cut away the peg eyelet. I wouldn't bother on a regular campsite, but might use it if I were going to a festival-type event.
Ive also been worried about the safety of our t/t, but also may bring our dog, which is a Doberman, only a baby though, would this be a prob do you think, as they are labelled as a dangerous dog!!!! He is dangerous in the licking department though, licks everyone to death..... Sould I pre-warn sites, although he will be on a lead?
Will a little padlock work on the zips, surely it will still zip un-open, as you have quessed I havnt a clue, new to the camping fun!!!
Firstly, don't feel silly, as I always say the only silly question is the one you never ask..... (as proved by others grateful to yourself for asking the question)
Secondly, we have never had any trouble with stuff being nicked, and others have already commented campers look out for each other
Enjoy
------------- We only go camping to see what we have forgotten and what we need to get for next time. If only we could remember where we put the list..................
just to show what great guys we have on these camp sites when camping in Scotland on very windy day our tent completely unpegged itself and would have blown away never to be seen again! (we had gone out for the day by the way) All our belongings were exposed. But when we get back in the evening our tent had been rescured put back up securely and nothing was missing. Someone on the site we didn't know did all that.
