When you think about the amount of space require to fit a small 1 man tent and a car side by side on a pitch which is standard pitching procedure in the UK The distance required from the next unit on your left to the next unit on your right would be two meters for the car two meters for you to move around your tent one meter for your tent 10 meters for the six meter rule I make that 15meters you should have for your 1 meter tent.I suppose when you take the little one you always get that much

What would annoy me most is not the fact that they make a charge for anything over a small tent but that there is no equivalent charge for caravans. Most caravans are bigger than 8ft by 6ft, and ok they are charged for awnings, you could take a massive caravan and pay no surcharge. They also do not seemt o charge extra for trailer tents either.
This would suggest to me that, either they are just being greedy or that they wish to discourage tent owners.

That statement you have made is what I also believe, of some of the more popular site's around the UK. I am not sure how they would stand with their licensing if they refused to take tents.I know that some caravan site do not accept tents .Maybe someone with more knowledge on the subject could enlighten us on this

I went to the site several years ago, it is not very big. It is a nice site, though the facilities were a little basic (much better than the worse I have experienced though). I was able to rent a canoe fron the site, which was the reason I went there. Apart from the the thrill of taking my family up the river for a day my biggest memory was the sound of the neighbouring entertainment facilities until 1900hrs. I don't get headaches a lot, but did there. Maybe it has changed in the last three years, but if not I wouldn't be too unhappy with not going. I would say the sizes you quote are a might stingy though, it would not accomodate what most consider a weekender.
Supply and demand states that for a business, the price charged will always be the maximum acceptable to those that choose to purchase.
This is why a business can never stand still, because the market will always change.
There will always be campsites that evolve into places I no longer want to visit. It's a real shame if it happens to one I like - but it does give me the nudge I need to find something even better.
I think that the situation might be eased if there was an accepted definition of what constitutes an extra-large size tent. We actually "downsized" from a Colorado DLX multi-pod dome to a Khyam Ontario tunnel only to find that some sites were still defining the Ontario as "extra-large" despite its footprint being significantly smaller and a regular shape.
If there was an agreed standard size for a large tent then at least we would all know where we are (I think we would all agree that 8'x6' is actually a pretty small tent!).
I also think that incorporating a "large tent surcharge" tag in the site entries on the site is now needed as having to search the large tent thread after finding a nice looking site on the site search is a little cumbersome.
What really annoys me though is that several sites are making these charges and then simply fitting the so called extra-large tents on to exactly the same size pitches as all the rest. Paying more for an extra-large size pitch is fine - paying simply because you have a big tent is wrong.

What you say is correct in my opinion.At least if you have to pay for two pitches on the C&C Club I will assume you would get them but should then give you a pitch width of 28 meters between the units either side of you.
