We spent a rainy week in Dorset last May and used a cheap fan heater from Argos. It did the job of keeping us warm but it kept tripping the electrics on the campsite. Owner not pleased to have to keep coming and resetting it all. I think so many people had heaters on it overloaded the circuit.
Also after having it on most of the day cos it was freezing, the inside of our tent (Vango Diablo 900) was soaking and we actually thought it was leaking but it was definitely condensation.
I think we will try some other sort of heating next time
thanks for the advice- forget the leisure battery heating.We'll try and get an EHU- but are these hard to come by at busy times?
We are hoping to go to Derbyshire at May Day Bank Holiday and to Stratford at the end of May but OH doesn't want to book because he doesn't want to go if weather is poor. Might also try Edinburgh Festival in August if first 2 go well.
I have just bought a cheapie fan heater from Argos as going camping this weekend but hubbie concerned about condensation build-up especially as camping in new vermont XL and testing for leaks - know there was issue with leaking vs condensation in these tents.
What are peoples experience of condensation caused by fan heaters?
if you use heat are you not less likely to have condensation as warm moist breath won't be hitting colder tent?

Familyfitz, we've always used a fan heater during the night and so far, have never experienced any condensation. My daughter is a very light sleeper and I find the hum of the heater helps her sleep as well. Bonus!

I think if you need a fan heater on all night then its too cold to be camping or you need a better sleeping bag/smaller tent/more layers.
its one thing to take the chill off in the morning, or while you undress for bed, but all night??? I thought campers were environmentally friendly!
To heat a tent or a caravan for any length of time is such a huge waste of energy (just like heating a conservatory!). Just because EHU is 'unlimited' doesn't mean you should use it to extreme, the price of EHU will be going through the roof for everyone. I hope if this trend continues sites will put in place coin meters, I'm sure people would be more frugal with their heating if they were paying for it as they used it!
Well I was very pleasantly surprised/shocked when I looked at my bank account and found that I had been refunded over £500 from my gas and electric company on Friday.
Still can't believe it especially when prices have risen! The money I have saved is going towards my new camping trailer.
..but I agree with you Christine and rozinante. Taking a heater for a bit of comfort if you're chilled is one thing but being wasteful and thoughtless is another matter.
