Do you ask for discount when you shop at Tesco?
actually a friend of mine bought a job lot of stuff from Tescos. They had a sale on and she wanted to buy a bag of about 30 pairs of flip flops (dont ask) anyway she went up to the customer service desk and asked if they would do the lot for £20 - they did
That's the whole point about 'calling the bluff'. You have to be prepared to walk out.
I've priced up everything online and can easily save £60. Even with shipping. I've got the lot including price printed out and will take it with me to 'compare'
Anyone that is prepared to watch a £500 sale walk out the door, especially with the economic climate what it is, has to be nuts.

Our tent is very similar to that but by Easy Camp. Purchased (brand new) on e-bay for £45. We also got things like pump, lights, etc from e-bay.
However, Decathlon has some great deals and we got airbeds from there and a table. Millets is cheapest for cooking bits at the moment. Sleeping bags were from Argos sale....etc etc.
Everything has added up to about £150 so all I am really trying to say is shop about...you will save bundles. We didn't want to pay out loads in case we hate camping and at least we know we can sell it and get out money back if necessary!
However, would I ask for discount on a bulk buy...yes I damn well would (and you WILL get it)
I agree, there is a huge markup in camping gear, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. We saved over £50 when we bought our first Outwell last year and all we did was ask. If you pay attention to how Dom Littlewood does his bargaining, he stays strong and confident and knows they can do a discount and lets them know. Also, the shops are small and not stores like Tesco.
I once asked for a discount on an item on ebay, just a couple of quid off and got slammed. So you really need to be prepared. The larger the purchase the better the bartering. Also, as suggested, the price matching. do your homework. We went to a major camping retailer who matches and beats competitors and we saved over £30.
Do your research and be prepared. Hold your hand out and shake when you get to your closest deal.
I play a game with my car insurer every year, he quotes a price & I say " its cheaper at tesco" & he gives me a discount so its the same price. Always do your homework first & know what the others are charging.
If you know what you are going for then go online get prices, print them off and then get the shop to price match. You will find they will do it, in the current climate its a buyers market and the shops are desperate to get your business. They still make a hefty profit anyway.
We run our own retail business (blinds) and we will often give a 10-15% discount if it's a large sale - such as yours is. This serves us in three ways, one: we get the sale, two: that customer will always come back to us and three: that customer will recommend us to others, very important factors when it comes to retail, particularly when it comes to small firms. So it never hurts to ask "would there be any discount if I buy all these items together?"
Another point. I wouldn't ask for discount for cash, most reputable shops wouldn't dream of going down that route, fiddling the tax man isn't the best way to build a business. We have no problem with a genuine discount but someone asking for discount for cash just gets my back up lol!
Finally, we have that tent and I cannot recommend it highly enough! Fabulously roomy, easy to pitch, lots of extra's available and incredibly reliable. It has withstood all the inclement weather this country throws at us and hasn't let us down once - though before I forget, don't forget to invest in about 15 to 20 Delta pegs for the guys, they're invaluable lol! Happy camping
I can't get a discount on my new tent, but if I had had the one from display, it sounded like he might have knocked more off....but then they don't really honour the guarantee if it's been up outside for a long period of time.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
