This was our first year camping as a family and although we absolutely loved it we did give up quite early on as the weather was pants and we jsut didn't want tor isk being stuck in a muddy field with a soaking tent and the kids and stuff. Obviously as we become more experienced I'm sure we'll learn to cope with all that!! We all hate the cold as well!
We are starting earlier next year, March is our first trip hopefully and then we'll take it from there!
If you are thinking of getting the canvasses out, we tried a good site in Lincolnshire for Xmas and New Year last Year (restaurant on site), had a great time and loads of people there. Its called the Woodlands, they do have a web site.
For various family and work reasons, I have been unable to get away for the last three weeks. I have told my wife that I will be going for a long week end what ever the weather this friday. (solo camp)
Now I see they are forcasting bad winds and cold (north east) but I don't care, I'm going any way. I've two frame tents, (and them special pegs) so if it gets blown down I've still got the other one.
Bobby Bees
I wonder if I'll have the place it to myself? ((hope so))
(((Bet I get a text telling me I'm working friday or saturday night))).
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
We are packed up until Easter now or thereabouts although Ive just bought a new tent which hopefully we can collect tomorrow ready for pitching Saturday to check over and I can just imagine it stood in my garden winking at me!!!
Sadly Sadly, my dogs not well, it's an old age thing, so he can't come with me, which is really a shame, because I feel much more secure with my German Shep. in the tent.
Back to your first suggestion, I wish she would recommend some one else for the week end!!! it was a solo camp
Just about to go upstairs now, for a shower and then off to the pub instead.
So tomorrow instead of being tucked up in my tent, with my music (headphones) hot soup and all the other luxuries of camping, I'll be at my sister in laws, being a builder and decorator with a headache.
Oh well, there's always next year or the year after.

Finished for this year. Didnt get away as much as I would have liked though, due to health problems and a very stressful summer, due to neighbours from hell.
If alls well then come easter we'll be back under the stars.(or clouds)

Cool campers use Delta Pegs.
The happiest people aren't the ones who have everything they are the ones who make the most of everything they have
We had 9 glorious getaways, weather generally not that bad.
We are packed away (for now), partner just passed theory teat today and with the practical in January I am plotting to start a whole lot earlier in 2009 (well we did it in 2008 without a car so I'm thinking with one it'll be a piece of cake).
Please don't let on yet, the poor sod has no idea why I'm paying for half the lessons!!!
