Oh my god! We bought one yesterday for £9.99 from the LIDL in Kilsyth,(Dezzie). Still in the box and feels bloody heavy! Keep y'all posted if we decide we don't need it - because of weight/size. Got an ASDA BBQ a few weeks back for £6.99, raised with legs and grill thing, and much lighter, worked well first try.
Hey Grapefruit, thats the Lidl I go to. Not been over for ages though - Did they have many? I was going to get one for the garden rather than camping. Its the cleaning of them and dismantling that puts me off taking something like that camping.

Is anyone seriously going to cook on these, btw, or are we just going to use them for posing with outside the tent, and as a fire pit?
Im goin to cook on it. Like I mentioned right at the begining, the paella pan we have fits nicely over the top....so paella here we come!
How do make your Paella , I used to live in Mallorca Spain ,in fact my brother was born there and still lives there , I can make a cracking Paella and just wondered how you made it .
If anyone wants one of these tripod BBQ's my local Lidl still had one in stock at nearly closing time so I could buy it in the morning and post it to you if you pay me for it and p+p .

Hiya, I think they had about 4 or 5 on display - that was about 6pm last night. Was checking out that mad bendy seat/bed as well, but £50!

I have just dug out my old stove-top retro orange Le Creuset kettle to hang over the fire, hehe. Now all I need is one of these big pots with a hanging handle, like a jam pan but with a lid.

yes will definitely cook on it
wanted the base for a fire pit and the hanging grill
will probably use the tripod i already made though, it's sturdier and more compact to pack
I too purchased one of these splendid contraptions BUT I'm impaled on the horns of a dilema...The thing has a gazillion nuts and bolts and seems impractical to take down / put up when making / striking camp. Looking at it in my opinion quite a few of the nuts and blts are dispensable. It goes together much like steel tent poles i.e. one pole fitting inside another. When we pitch a frame tent we don't bolt brackets around the join, they simply sit there doing the job intended. As far as I can see the only nuts required would be the very top, where the top poles fit inside the umbrella thingy plus the ring about two thirds to the top. It should keep it's integrity with just this arrangement...all the rest could just sit one inside the other just like the poles of a frame tent. I'd be interested what arrangements the rest of you are making regarding the transporting of the thing.

as my wife has said above, i built mine on sunday night and straight away thought it was over engineered. i am going to leave out the ring that sits 2/4rds from the top, after looking at the top plate i was going to re-weld it stronger but i honestly don't think it needs it. as for the legs, i'm only using three sections per leg rather than four but i'm going to replace the screws with "R" clips so that it can be dismantled in a reasonable time. im going to put it all back together tonight so i will take some photos and show you what i've done.
hope this helps
Paul
------------- Somebody help me.......I need more room for my gear!
What I've done is to remove the top umbrella and the ring two thirds of the way to the top. That left me with the firepit and grill which fit neatly into one another. Then what I had left was the three legs bolted together. I split the legs into 2x2 pieces by removing just the one nut and bolt. Now what I've got are six shorter lengths of legs which are more manageable. I hadn't thought of leaving out one section of the legs but I'll have a look next time I put the thing back together.
