Wendy (as in Wendbert), be brave, it is only a short trip with your friends and their kids!!! With luck, they will fuss over your dogs and leave you in peace!
DK
We have some days out planned, plus the kids are taking their bikes so I'm hoping a combination of fresh air and lots of activities will tire them out To be fair, they are good kids and great around the dogs, so all being well it will be fine.
We enjoy going camping as a family, me OH and 2 kids. I enjoy spending the quality time together and there's always plenty of happy campers of evening to chat to. I'm not sure camping with the rest of family or other group would suit us. When we've been away in the past there's never been any arguments but we do like a bit of space to do our own thing without worrying if the others who we're with would be enjoying themselves.
We usually camp with woofers and her husband and it works fine with us! (i have to say that in case she reads this)
It's the only time we see each other, so gives us hours to sit around a campfire talkng absolute nonsense for hours on end
There is never any pressure to feel you have to do something just because they do. To be honest we work on the same wave length and are all pretty chilled out. If someone wants to go to the shop, take the dogs to the beach etc we usually all go, but sometimes will go off on our own without feeling obliged to all do the same thing.
If someone wants a 'siesta' they have one, we don't demand they sit and entertain us
we don't share everything, as each has their own equipment, but we all muck in at dinner time and one does the meat, one the spuds etc
And you can't beat the dinner in the dutch oven bubbling, rattling away and putting the world to right round the camp fire at night with a bunch of friends
There are only 4 of us and it works well, more so than if if it was just me and the OH. I need my 'mate' to traipse round the campsite spying on other peoples set ups, looking at weirdos we have spotted in the day, and to splash in the large puddles in our ponchos at 8am in the morning because of the torrential rain the night before
