we tend to go to smaller basic sites, with no ehu, that puts alot of caravanners and motor home owners off, but not all
we use a really basic site just past Capel Curig, you camp on any field thats open, sometimes we dont even see another tent, have seen a few converted vans, access is narrow, so that put them off too
but have been on a c&cc district meet and been the only tent in over 50 units.........dont do that very often
weve got nowt against anyone, no matter what unit they are in, but having the view of snowdon blocked by an almighty american motorhome was a deciding factor in where NOT to camp....
We went to a site on the Gower, and we were put in the same row, in the middle in fact, of a row of tourer caravans.
We did not miss out of the view as we faced the tent the same as the front window on a van.Short walk to a wall an we could lean against it for a brilliant view.
The night befor we came home the wind did pick up.We slept through it and only lost a peg.The two end vans did not fare as well and had to drop awnings quick. The one guy asked us if we were ok on that morning as he has ran past to help the guy on the far end .There was an advantage to being in the middle on this occasion.
We stayed at http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=7424 Hafod Y LLan and that is tents only.
No cars allowed on the field at all, even for loading/unloading.
Its a National Trust site and there are quite a few NT sites that are tents (and maybe a few motorhomes) especially in the Lakes e.g. Wasdale, Seatoller.
It's a few years since we've been but Westfleet farm in Weymouth was tents only.
It has the added bonus of a club house that serves breakfast in the morning and entertainment at night. Also an outdoor pool.
The toilets and showers weren't too good but they've been updated sincew our last visit.
