Tin of M&S Chilli, Tilda Coriander and lime rice, grated cheese and some wraps. Heat the chilli, then add the rice with a couple of tablespoons of water. Cover and simmer for about 2 minutes. Fill wraps with chilli/rice mix and cheese....yummy.
Also, take some cheap paper plates to put on top of your camping plates - saves on washing up 'cos you can just chuck 'em away and your good plates are still clean underneath.
i've been taking my small camping stove to work in the van to have a tin of something rather the sandwiches i've taken for the last twenty years, italian wedding soup's me favourite and i don't mind at all the tesco chilli or beef curry chicken jalfrezi tins. there's slow cooked lamb stew with veg amongst the tins and you can also get lincolnshire sausage casserole which is 2 full size sausages and veg in a tin. they can be pricy but for me cheaper than a garage pork pie and bag of crisps!!
i'm hungry now writing this :)
One of our faves is a tin of stewing steak, tin of new potatoes and baked beans. Funny though it never tastes as good at home. The children will only eat it if we are camping.
I do like the tins of marrowfat peas...even when I'm at home, no idea why as they don't look or sound appetising but taste lovely. ideal on a campsite with tinned spuds, sausages & gravy
our camping staples are as follows. I tend to avoid meat as we only have a cool box and I don't want to poison everyone, but I might just be tempted by tinned M&S stew several folks have mentioned. The idea of tinned meat is just offputting after feeding cats and dogs tinned meat for many years!
Shepherd pie; smash for the top, tinned toms, tinned lentils, baked beans, sweetcorn, chopped peppers for the pie bit, just make up on the plate!
pasta mush; using condensed soup for the sauce, tinned sweetcorn and whatever tinned fish I can find MSC certified. Two versions of this one with white (chicken/mushroom/celery) soup and one with tomato based soup.
Chilli; boil in the bag rice, expensive but so much easier when camping, with pasta sauce and kidney beans
Tortilla wraps; tinned kidney beans, tom puree + water to make a sauce, sweetcorn, sliced peppers for something fresh. Serve with refried beans and grated cheese.
Angel delight for pudding - the kids love making these!
A bit decadent but an absolutely gorgeous meal that will rival anything you get in a restaurant - start by boiling some new potatoes and put aside to add later, fry some onions, add in some fish pieces - we use fish pie mix then add in a tin of Baxters Cullen Skink. Add in the cooked potatoes and serve adding lots of ground pepper with some crusty bread and a glass of wine. You'll be in heaven guaranteed
Ribble- the whole cat food thing is what put me off but so far what I have tried hasn't been too bad thanks to suggestions on here
