JoMarch the days before family friendly pubs and kids weren't allowed in! TV nostalgia is the thing I remember most (other than Soda Stream and the summer of 1976). Banana Splitz, White Horses, Whirly Birds etc and I don't think TV started until about 10:00am....? Try telling that to the yooooth of today....(actually I tell my son and he just rolls his eyes)

Moog56....how do you know?
Just out of curiosity, your user name, is it from the classic electronic "moog" keyboard.....
I had 70's parenting, if we went to a pub I had to sit outside with my brother. We were given a bottle of coke and bag of crisps whilst my parents sat inside and enjoyed the warm comfort of a roaring fire. Oh those were the days..

I remember sitting in my Grandads Dormaville van (Is that how you spell it) outside pubs 1 coke 1 bag of crisps and told we will be back in 2 shakes of a donkeys tail. I can tell you all after doing this many many times. I can scientifically state it takes 3 hours for a donkey to wag its tail twice.
Dormobile!!!!! VW camper, looked like Dougall with the spare tyre at the front. How I LONGED to be in one. They looked so cool, even in Wedgwood blue. We had a 5-berth blue canvas Litchfield frame tent. Went on for Y.E.A.R.S.
I remember vividly. Born 1963, grew up late 60s/early 70s.
Crisps (S&V) and Coke in a glass bottle - in the car. Whilst everyone else (sisters included) were INSIDE. Basket meals of scampi and chips if we were reeeeallllyyyyy lucky.
Golden Nuggets, Angel Delight (ace as a camping dessert), Blue Peter, Brownies and Guides, so many memories.
So for me,
My ultimate luxury would be...
A time machine.
Was it REALLY as fun as I remember 40-odd years ago?
I suppose your half-century year is made for reminiscences... but bugger, am I really that old????
Yes, I loved it, and my Mum ("So much freedom" she said).
Some things don't change.
------------- Camping - emotional resilience in action, a triumph of hope over adversity and antidote to virtual reality.
A free mini bar serving Guinness, served by Daniel Craig...
Enjoying the 70s childhood memories...I remember the Banana Splits...was it Saturday mornings? We used to love that, but more often than not I think we were dragged off to traipse round Derbyshire so would miss it.
We used to sit outside a pub halfway round in Dovedale. Remember my Dad usually popping into the pub to see if there was a 'family room'...more often than not we'd be sat outside in the rain with said crisps and soggy sandwiches.

McGuire, Holidays involving being squashed in the back of an Austin Marina (did everyone have a Marina in the 70s?),
We certainly had one, but ours was a Morris Marina. I don't think Austin made one.
My basic luxury would be an en suite shower. I'd love to get up in the morning and get straight under a stream of lovely hot water before setting foot out of the tent to face the world

FoO
You are right of course, I think I'm getting my Marinas and Allegros mixed up. But a 70s parent could fit 3 kids and enough kit for a week's holiday into one without too much trouble, did they teach packing skills in 50s and 60s schools do you think?
We also used to share a damp face cloth stored in a plastic bag because wipes hadn't been invented.
The other thing about taking a child into a 70s pub is that they disappeared in a cloud of smoke!
Ahh the good old days, when you used to ride bikes, scooters and skate boards without any protective clothing or helmets. Play outside from morning until dusk and think flares were cool.

SKATE BOARDS. You must be far too young mac. My kids had them. That's the first time I saw them. Unless you are a Yank of course.

The first skate boards started to appear in the early 80s although their history in the US goes back to the 60's I think... (I was about 12-13 in the early 80's) not quite the 70's I know. To be honest my first one was a DIY effort from old roller skate wheels and a piece of wood on top....absolutely lethal but most things were then.
Ha Ha As I thought a youngster Strange times them 80`s. explains a lot. Anyway best get back to the OP. A tin opener that would open a Party Seven without drenching you.

I used to love a Watneys party seven. They were great when I would have a few mates over for a sleepover. With a beer tap I could pretend to be landlord...oh to be seven again.
