For the last two years we have took our camping gear to Cornwall, which for us is 12 hours (from Newcastle).

Both times we have left at 0100, stopping around Worcester around 0700 for Breakfast. Our 3 kids have been fine, slept most of the way until the stop.

I had the same concerns about leaving trailer overnight.
