Anyone done a comparison test between the (very expensive) Thermarest SIMs and (much cheaper) alternatives like the Kampa?
I've been looking at the 10cm thick Kampa Wideboy XL, which looks good on paper. But I'm wondering, is the Thermarest really worth twice as much money, especially as it's 25mm thinner?
It's not that I mind the extra cost...IF it's worth it.?
My first SIM was an Outwell double that is 5cm thick, and I found it to be uncomfortable.
Also, the packed size is quite large and bulky, and the valve has broken after 2 trips. I cannot remember how much I paid for it, as it was bought in 2006/7. It sits in the garage unused and unloved.
Whereas my Therm-a-rest Luxury Map at 7.5cm thick is very comfortable even when I was lying on it on my side, and the valve can be changed when it eventually breaks.
I appreciate it is not a like for like comparison, however, I am suitably impressed by the Luxury Map that I ordered another one that arrived today. To me, it is worth every penny.

I bought mine from The Outdoor Shop online, they have a big range of Therm-a-rest and MSR products, good price, free delivery above 30 GBP and quick service.

all of us in here could go to the country's biggest bed shop.
and each one of us is likely to find a different bed that we each find comfortable. and the opposite too.
so asking if sims are comfortable is not really a question to ask others
you need to try them yourself.
i bought one because i was fed up of self deflating air beds. even the expensive aerobed.
so i bought a 7cm double sim and im very happy with it. it doesnt mean you would like it though or find it comfortable - you might not get a winks sleep all night long and despise it.

I find it difficult to try out a range of camping stuff, there's hardly anywhere who does a good range here, so you're left to the mercy of research and thankfully being able to get advise from forums like here.
We took a risk and bought 2 SIM's on the internet. Outwell Dreamsleep 7.5cm. They were £54 odd each, so not exactly a cheap purchase.
Pleased to say we're loving them. We use them to top our Kampa double folding camp bed and they are perfect for it. It's amazing how comfy they have made the bed. No sign off bars or chills, just a warm, well supported and cosy nest night's sleep.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
