Bought our tent from argos does a family of 5 perfectly. Don't plan to camp in extreme weather so no need to spend money on features we don't need, we've had it for 3 summers now and it has paid for itself in fun fun fun 10 times over !!! and we don't need to worry about being too careful - it was only cheap!!! For young families looking for camping fun or to try something new buy what you can afford and upgrade once youve tried it and loved it. don't knock folks buying a cheaper tent to be used in the summer they may be you best customers a year or two down the line!!!!
ah there's nothing wrong with buying cheap (as in bargain), our Vango Venture 600DLX was only £70 in the sale.
Our first tent was £60 brand new and was a real cheapy. the only reason we got rid of it after the first time we used it was cos my OH wanted to be able to stand up in the tent and I thought we needed more room for the 5 of us.
I know that when we upgrade again we'll probably go for a more expensive, bigger one.
My mam was in stitches today cos I said I want a 3 bedroomed tent with a bigger living room! she said I talk about it as if it was a house! we'll you do live in it???? LOL
just promise me, whatever you sell, however much you sell it for, PLEASE PLEASE
Dont sell THESE!!!!
they dont work!!!!!!
Good luck with the shop!!

I love walking around camping shops. But if i can find what i need, cheaper anywhere else. I'm sorry i'll buy it there. I've got to save money where i can so we have some extra to spend on hols.

{As told to me by a friend.} Man's best friend is the dog, but a women's is the bunny Smile and the world smiles with you, we hope!!
Four years ago, we bought a 6 man dome for £50 from someone I worked with, who originally bought it from Macro for £130 and had used it most weekends. It's unnamed (a picture of it is on my profile - orange & blue one), but has stood up to some real bad wheather; from a flood at a site a few miles away from Boscastle in the week when they had floods, to strong gales last year when I thought it was going to take off! It is showing signs of wear now - but for an unbranded tent, I can't fault it. We've bought a Vango Diablo 600 for this season - can't wait to try it out - hope it lasts as well as my old one!
As many have suggested, we started with cheaper kit and are slowly trading up. All of our main kit, cooker etc has come from camping suppliers not supermarkets.
Hope the shop goes well. Will you be putting a website together in the future?
Must admit we have bought camping stuff from wherever the price is right - we like to look around camping shops for ideas but sometimes find the prices higher. We are on the look out for a new tent this season though and the best places to look aorund tent displays are camping shops themselves. Are you open Easter Sunday/Monday Gary??
we have the same tent from Makro which was given to us by a friend who tried camping and his wife did not like it. We use it when we go camping at weekends and it has not been any trouble in rain or wind at coastal and inland sites.
Yes it is ok if you can afford to buy the dearer well known makes but people go camping as it is a cheap holiday for them.
just promise me, whatever you sell, however much you sell it for, PLEASE PLEASE

Good luck with the shop!!
You are soooo right Jen! Useless! I use the JJB hotplate - not ideal so I would appreciate knowing what everyone else uses.
As for cheapo supermarket goodies, 7 years I went out and bought a £50 4 person dome from Co-op and my NON campong OH (would never ever camp) said "If I go camping I want a proper tent" so I took it back and went to a proper camp shop and bought a Wynnster Buzzard. did me fine.
Last year I needed some sleeping bags and Halfrauds had an offer for the price I would pay for the two bags I would get roll mats and a 2p tent. No probs! Used the tent once and threw it away at 6am in the morning!
So for tents I would get 'proper' ones but accessories are fair game, wherever is cheapest!
Good luck Gary, hope it all goes well, you obviously aren't superstitious
Wow what a response, its nice to get so much feedback.
A few questions were directed to me so here goes.
I should be open on the 1st of april as lond as my PDQ and a few other items turn up. As for easter sunday and monday, sorry not open on easter sunday, its the law but yes to easter monday, 10,30 - 4,30. Re cadacs, ive got to have a meeting with them yet but i do plan on selling them and ill be a low as anyone else re price. I will be stocking the new Camping Gaz vertion which is really cool. Re that toaster thing, no no no. This is the thing, so many camping retailers never go camping so they dont know that some of the products they stock dont work. I will be stocking the single flat toaster thingy. This works well but one slice at a time. I prefer tp take a electric hook up and use a low voltage toaster. Re were we are, Phillimore garden centre, cambridge rd, melbourn, nr royston, herts sg8 6ey. Jct 11 of M11, south down A10 to the first turning for melbourn (big garden centre on Jct) on the left, past first garden centre then turn into second garden centre on right.
I look forward to meeting some of you.
If you like what you see please spread the word. If not tell me.
response to toaster the 4 slice DOES work well on petrol stoves as the original design come from america to use on coleman stoves however on gas only toasts dry just clearing that one up
