That works out at 2 for each pole (6) and one for each corner (4) = 10
I also use 2 at the back for the vent/rear wall.
Some versions also have a couple of guys coming from the front door frame - I can't work out if this is the new or old version of the tent!!
However, if you are also getting the extension you will need a further 10, making a grand total of 22 or 24. But get a few spare.
I have the nylon ones. To me they seem to cover more options of types of ground. However, they are not suitable for rocky ground as they can contort or break. But, as I think I've already said, mention your UKCS membership number and you get 10% discount. Send Rob an email (address on the Delta website) and he'll give you a quote, then pay either by card or send a cheque.
Cheers Former Scout most helpful!!! Not going to get the extension for a while will have to save some money up for that. Will probably get it in the future though. Hopefully with those delta pegs in it shouldn't be too bad in the wind fingers crossed!
Try the Coleman Cedar Creek if you want a good solid tent in the wind. It's got steel poles so is pretty sturdy. We've had our tent up in the wind and rain and not as much as a guy rope out of place at the end of it all.

sorry to sound ignorant, but I always understood that a dome tent such as the orchy would fare better in high winds compared to a tunnel type? is it the metal poles that makes the minnesota stonger?
The most rigid form of tent structure is either a geodisic or semi-geodisic dome tent, though once they get past the pup tent size then they get progressively weaker. Still stronger than a dome or tunnel though, all other things being equal.
Off the top of my head the only large semi-geodisic dome I can think of is the Coleman Darwin 5 or 7, though obviously the extension is a tunnel. I think if you planted the Darwin bum-end into the wind it would be pretty robust.
thnaks for that, neither of the two suggested is big enough for us though. the colorado that we have seems to be pretty secure, certainly the older style (that I have used with scouts) has stood up well to some pretty bad weather. we have chosen a sheltered site as well, not easy to find on the north yorkshire coast!
but thanks for the advice, if all goes well we will be looking for a smaller weekend tent that we can pitch on our own, very windy, ne scottish coast.

The Go Outdoors price match offer + extra 10% discount, has to be anyones first port of call when buying new tents/equipment. We found a web site (outdoorworld.co.uk) doing the Monty 6 for 299.00 (Go Outdoors selling at 299.99), and when buying additional stuff with the tent the outdoorworld website seriously knock the price down on stuff like extensions (79.00), carpets (39.00), footprint GS (15.00) etc.
Just print out what would be your order, and take down to Go Outdoors. Need to make sure you can show them what each individual item would cost with outdoorworld, in addition to the total order price (scroll to bottom of the Montana 6 page and all listed at extra discount rates) and Go Outdoors do indeed give you the price match - extra 10% discount.
So, Go Outdoors just sold us the Monty 6, Monty 6 extension, and Monty 6 carpet for 375.00. Current Go Outdoors price is aprox 465.00. Bargains like these can not be missed (although Go Outdoors will not be pleased!)
I went to a local camping display recently organised by Millets and it was very windy. They had about 40 tents on display and it gave me a good idea of how they performed. I chose a vango diablo 600 that day, the wind just flowed over it, I was so impressed. I spoke to another camper who had one and he said how good it was. On returning home I checked prices and Go Outdoors had an excellent offer so I duly bought one.
We spent a hairy night with 50mph winds on the cliffs at Scarborough a couple of weeks ago....the Minnesota 4 was sound as a pound and no leaks. Can only speak from experience.
