What I was trying to emphasise in my previous post was the safety aspect of leaving an unattended electric heater on all night in a tent. There is a real chance of something catching fire with obvious consequences. Surely this is putting your children in far more danger than them getting cold.
Get some warm sleeping bags etc you will be lovely and warm and much safer.
We love to get away from it all-that means the lot!! lol
We have issues health wise for keeping our youngest warm etc due to heart disease, but we invested in some good bedding, jim jams/thermals etc and he actually sleeps ten times better in a tent than he does in his own bed/house
I would alway's be too terrified of the 'what if it did catch fire' to even contemplate getting a heater, I am not that brave!!
My 'God' why do 'folks' go off on one. If you require an EHU for what ever use, providing you don't over load,then fine,what one does behind closed 'Zips' is none of our business, providing it does not disturb others after 'curfew',if you object to the use of EHU hook up then don't use a pitch/site that has it, or is this too complicated
Contrary to popular opinion, I actually think a tent can be warmed up with a heater. I definitely notice the difference from outside and in my cozy heated tent (fan heater or gas heater). May be it's the extra layer over the roof that helps trap the heat.
Re the TV's in tents, thats another thread, but I'm with Sanhozay, I don't mind listening to chatting and laughter from other tents (within reason), have often drifted off to sleep listening to that, but other peoples Tv noice is irritating and annoying (to me).
P.S. I'm not a Glamper or a Swampie... just a happy camper somewhere in between. Enjoy your camping everyone, however you like to do it, as long as you don't encroach on your neighbours happy camping.
I have an electric heater and does warm the tent up.Also it has only got to move a small angle and cuts out and if want to start up have to make dead sure it is fully upright before it will work.
I have a fan heater in the tent. Bought it a few years ago half way through a damp, cold and soggy 3 week camping trip. We were cold and miserable and fed up of getting into the car for a drive to get warm an feel dry.
Since then I have taken it on most camping trips. It gets used maybe last thing at night before getting ready for bed. The last 2 damp wet summers I have camped for 3 weeks at a time and use this hour before bed to unwind with a hot choc, boil the (gas) kettle for out hot water bottles (essential camping kit imo) and also to help dry any damp towels/coats etc. I have a canvas tent so do not find I suffer from condensation but would wonder how bad condensation would be in a nylon tent.
The heater gets switched off when we go to bed. I worry too much about it falling over and causing a fire. I am always up in the night for a visit to my porta potti and for the 2 minutes loo stop can cope with the chill. My kids have never complained too. Once or twice I have awoken in the night very cold (was 3degrees according to the people in the tent next door - who were alos up feeling the chill as were alot of people on the site) and then I did get up and put the fan heater on for 30 minutes or so to take the chill off.
I think its upto what suits you but I really do wish campers would consider the noise they may make. I am with Valkscot - I would be very annoyed to have lie in bed listeningto someones fan heater whirring all night long.

My hubby will keep me warm but what about Jenny - our dog? I will have to get heating for her in October. When we go camping we will switch off her radiator at home and get her some heating in the tent

Heating for a dog We've got two dogs - a border terrier X Jack Russell, and a border terrier X Lakeland with a bit of JR thrown in. The border X JR (bitch) feels the cold a bit so we just chuck a blanket over her and she's fine. The other dog is a male and never feels the cold - don't know what it is with bitches!
