Again, good comment Peter. The one thing that does horrify me are the stories that have started streaming in (albeit slowly), about antisocial behaviour etc, yet the posters mention that they didnt do ANYTHING about the perpetrators. I really despair when I read this as it doesnt just affect them - It affects every poor sod that ends up next to the families from hell. Its refreshing to read that someone has the same attitude as me. We should all report this kind of behaviour.

Cool campers use Delta Pegs.
The happiest people aren't the ones who have everything they are the ones who make the most of everything they have
We get stories every year of problem campers so I don't think there is anything new about that. Hopefully it won't be worse this year.
With regard to thefts, it does pay to be careful, we lock purses, wallets, cameras etc in the car boot and keep the keys close to us. If you leave your purse/wallet/psp etc. lying obviously in your tent then you are putting temptation in the way of those who might be easily tempted!
For anyone who uses festival or event sites you should be extra careful, we had lots of thefts on the marshals campsite at the Silverstone GP and the Police advised that there is a gang that targets that type of sites and they will enter tents at night and steal trousers with wallets in etc.
On event sites we often padlock the fridge to a dog spike and the gas bottle to make it difficult for someone to take it but the reality is they are usually going to take small, high value items.
Dezzie, I'm afraid I'm one of those people (as is my Nicky) who won't stand for any antisocial behaviour - and glad you are too! I've virtually frogmarched kids back to their homes when I've caught them pinching stuff from cars on my drive (only little wheel valve covers, but got to nip it in the bud!), and then they've come back the following day returning all the bits they've nicked, and apologised. I even got bits back that weren't mine to start off with. Funny thing is, these little scallies are always really nice to us now, as are their parents. And when one of them felt threatened by some dodgy looking bloke in the street, it was our house that he came to for safety. I feel the same as you though - despair at how easy people find it to turn a blind eye to, or just put up with, antisocial behaviour. When I've had to approach parents, I never do it in some sort of "holier than thou" way - even parents that I perhaps find a bit daunting are usually pretty pleasant if approached in a diplomatic fashion. I just hope that by tackling problem behaviour soon enough, and showing some empathy, that something might stick in these kids' brains and perhaps turn them into a slightly better person. That's the best we can all do and hope for.
As for the problem of grown-up tealeafs....well, all we can do is stick together and hope we have the support of camp wardens and the rozzers!

Totally agree - if people aren't prepared to take action, then it will just continue and those who did now't will be partly to blame imo.
I must admit, I think I give off some sort of "I'll stand no nonsense" vibe, as I've only ever really encountered one instance of anti-social behaviour in 36 years of camping. When anything does start to get a bit iffy, I always ask people (politely but firmly) to stop before I think about taking it any further, and so far haven't needed to take it any further.
The one time that I wanted to report something was on a site with no resident manager/owner and no mobile phone signal, so I couldn't even ring the police.
Sadly, I think I have been a victim of theft from the tent many many times.....possibly involving that chemical spray that motorhomers/caravanners with €5,000 in cash and £10K in jewellry (or whatever their insurance policy maximum is) fall victim to whilst overnighting in French service areas.
When the kids go to bed I open a bottle of wine. After that my mind goes blank.....
....I awake to find an empty bottle (sometimes two) blatantly staring us (AND embarrassingly for us any other campers around!) rolling around in the doorway of our tarp canopy.
Lady B is sometimes so allegedly overcome with the "chemical spray" that she has a headache and has to "rehydrate".

We have had our techni-ice pinched from someone else's tent... but that is it.
We don't leave any 'valuables' in the tent, and we take the car keys into the inner tent with us - I didn't used to, but DH pointed out there was no point locking the valuables in the car and then leaving the keys in full view.
