I'm definitely thinking of packing with the parcel shelf removed - packing level with head rests or using a 'guard' . Our two daughters could also reasonably comfortably sit next to one another with the back seat 'split' (will check this out)... of course it might increase the likelihood of more arguments.
Anyway, I live in hope that we'll get it all in...
Hi - We always make sure that the kids have lots of things to do in the back of the car - saves the arguments and our sanity. Usually let the kids pick the stuff - it all goes in their ruck sack and they are responsible for it - don't give them it till your on your way though cause they will get bored with it if they've played with it all before youve left.
I have a 3 door micra and an 8 year old! With the back seat folded down I manage to get everything in, Khyam Tourer 400, airbeds, sleeping bags, camping kitchen, stove, chairs, table, windbreak, 2xpillows, coolbox, 2 camping lanterns, camping heater, clothes etc. Next trip is going to be interesting as I now have a bike rack which clips on to the hatch and want to take 2 bikes as well. I often spend a week in a cottage in Cornwall and still manage to fill the car even though the cottage is fully furnished! For those trips I like to take, hot/cold/wet weather clothes, my son's entire collection of games, body board, beach tent, etc. etc.
We used to have a Zafira, and got everything in the back, but we now have a Chrysler PT Cruiser and a roofbox. We are 2 adults and 2 kids on booster seats. I take 3 changes of clothes, and use holdalls; each persons thermarest and sleeping bag goes in their holdall, that restricts the clothing: if it doesn't fit it isn't going! 3 holdalls and chairs in the roofbox, then tent, coolbox, one persons holdall, table, cooker and the kitbag in the boot. The coats get shoved in any which way, and we can only take what food/ beer fits in the coolbox, but thats not the end of the world. The PT Cruiser is great in that it has points for a cargo net, so we take out the parcel shelf, but can still secure the stuff in the boot. Do any other cars have these? It seems such a sensible idea.

Well, we have a Mitsubishi Shogun and, last year went to Scotland.
We had a four by three trailer, bike Rack and the car was still packed to the rafters.
The current project is a seven by four trailer (under construction) and we will probably still pack the car out.
There is a rule I am sure that you will fill all available space and still not have ev erything you want with you (check the signature below)

we are new to camping... we are 2 adults, 10yr old, and 7mth old.. we have a MG ZR (tiny boot) and on picking up our new Montana 6... discovered that we aint going to get much more in the boot... never mind, the travel cot, buggy, 3 chairs, 3 camp beds, table, cooker, sleeping bags, clothes...
This is going to take some serious planning, and a lot of practise
