As a potential customer, within the next weeks if I can see the tents, I can absolutely state that that is indeed the difference! I've been looking around, asking some questions, got replies from fellow campers, and some from a retailer who wasn't pushing his sales pitch but responding to the question. Considering that retailer is within easy enough distance from me, I do seriously consider to give them that business....The friendliness, unbiased advice and openess about being a retailer works and can reap benefits when provided unconditionally....
Interesting discussion nevertheless....
That is the issue here though, don't you reckon? Supposing not all retailers give 'unbiased advice' on this forum, and what if their 'openness' is actually a sales pitch?
I've noticed lots more retailers are posting on here lately, and not all declare their interests.
What does anyone else think?
Fair enough, although let's not under estimate the awareness of us consumers. After years of sticking up for myself, and being vocal about things like that, I have been getting rather tired of it all. Nowadays I complain with the one thing that all retailers listen to, silently and take my business elsewhere to the good "guys".....

Hi Markos, agree with that but not for the retailers pushing the gear, shops, shows etc and trying to out do each other and sell there stock. That is not what this forum is about. If they want to advertise there are means available through this website, as shown above (currently cycling click4tents as I type this post).

Absolutely! Fair point and I couldn't agree more. Well said, rickit!
Again totally agree retailers should be allowed to post here, but as long as its not trying to push there gear and that there interests are made public. Let us know you are retail, I know what your saying David but maybe you need to be a little less expressive with your posts, then maybe your accounts won't be removed. Despite of this thread, I see that one of the big retailers today is advertising his goods with a 10% discount at an up and coming show, if you want tickets he can supply. I understand why some of the retailers get a bit upset when some of the bigger ones are allowed to carry on advertsing for free when they could afford to support this fantastic website with a banner or the like. I for one David will be visiting your shop soon and will look forward in meeting you and will make myself known to you. This was a great thread and very informative started by Gary, Well Done.
I've been having a think about this. I really do value the participation of retailers. I do trust them though to be objective about their products. As long as retailers sell a range of products I would hope that is the case. I do want to know who the retailers are though and would like to see it reflected either in their user name or their signature. (I appreciate that this seems to be outside of forum guidance?).
I have concerns about retailers who sell only one product or type of product, their advice is perhaps not going to be as objective as those that sell a range of products and goods. I have seen that in action on here.
On other websites I've frequented there has been a "in business" type registration where traders register as business users. The rule is that they can reply to threads where they have an interest but cannot start threads just to advertise their own wares.
We're more than happy for retailers to sign up on here, and post where they feel they can make useful contributions to a thread. However they must make it clear who they are, and must not in any way use these forums constantly for advertising, or marketing, subtle, or blatant. We'll let them get away with a bit, but dont abuse it, we will chuck you off!
If anyone else suspects a poster of being a retailer, who has not declared this, or who is constantly 'recomending' the same website or shop, please dont hesitate to let us know. We will then take action to remove them from the forums if necessary as we did with Quong, and all the other aliases he used. They were all removed for blatant advertising.
