I have just had my tin foil on for 24 nights, milk was so cold that my son started asking if he could have the milk from the cupboard (we use UHT soya milk so always have some at tent temperature)
I find some of the never cook in a tent advice even with a single gas burner hard to follow, the reason being we have a Pathfinder with oven grill and 3 gas rings, when away my wife insists on a full sunday lunch, and on many occasions have had all of the burners going at the same time, and if it happens to be raining all closed up we have never had any problems or even thought about any.I dont know what others think about cooking in a camper or how it differs from cooking in a tent.
I have a battery power carbon monoxide detector that we use in the tent, that means when cooking with gas in the side porch so we can make sure it is burning cleanly.
We also use it if we need the gas heater to heat the tent.
Potentially life saving piece of kit that takes up very little room.
I've read these CO detectors aren't ideal in tents, as they should ideally be situated in warm/dry conditions (as in "inside a normal building!)... a rarity in any tent/similar unit.
Far from an expert, and stand to be corrected, but if it gets someone to just "double check" and do some research, then happy days.
Doesn't affect me, as we don't use gas inside... or haven't as yet!
...Am planning on having the gas cooker in our awning (not tried it yet) but there'll be no ground sheet, and at worst, there'll be a large mesh window either side of it, although I suspect in reality, it will be next to an open door, or even a fully open front.
Can anyone confirm whether these detectors actually do their job in a tent?
"...the best advice is to avoid any chance of being poisoned in the first place."
But that is like saying the best way to avoid a car accident is to stay at home. Best we can do is reduce the risks. Plenty of ventilation, keep the gas stove well maintained and looked after, and monitor for carbon monoxide.
We use the same make we were recommended for our kitchen, which is warm but humid.
