Dezzie, it is a Norwegian Lavvu if you want to get your facts right, a teepee is something totally different but can still accommodate an open fire.
Also a Norwegian Lavvu costs nowhere near the £1500 you quote, please do post facts
I stand corrected Brian and i've edited just to make sure the facts are right

Totally agree Too Gareth.
Sods law says some Vango maritsa owner will say theirs has a label that says its safe to cook in this area.
No I can safely say my Maritsa does not have that label.....hang on a minute....lol.....no it doesn't!
So let this be a lesson for all you ruthless extreme tent cookers out there: listen to shirleys, dezzie, rochford and me, you know it makes sense!
No, seriously. If new inexperienced campers come on here looking for sound advice surely it's better to say something like:
"Just about all family polyester tents out there are not designed by the manufacturers to be cooked in-this is due to the high risk of the tent catching fire/being damaged.
However, a large amount of cotton tents can be cooked in and have designated area's for this, but extreme care should still be taken, eg; be aware of small children, dogs, wind, people playing football outside ect.
I personally do this and/or that.......... But do so at my own and/or family's risk."
This thread has interested me from a sociological perspective more than the topic itself! My take so for is that there is a continum of stance from rules/regulations focussed to laissez faire. Either way my thoughts are that however you choose to behave, you should take responsibility for it and its effects on others.
When family camping I have used trailer tents, canvas and I'm soon to get a new polycotton. I have always cooked inside and taken appropriate safety precautions. When I camp alone I use a silnylon ultralight tent which would go up in second if lit but I still cook with a mini trangia in the porch and take care. If it did go up, it only contains me and I would take responsibility for it.
I feel that society in general is risk averse and whilst this may aviod some accidents, it also limits positive experiences too. I'm more weighted to positive risk taking where the risk have been identified but are being actively managed(not eliminated as this frequently means avioding said activity).
