No-one seems to have bathtub grounsheets except me so i thought i would post a topic about bathtub groundsheets, so i can talk to people with that same luxury. xxx
We've got one in our SV8 - in the outer living area. It's great to have the option of groundsheet or not. We also have a SIG in the inner living area which keeps out draughts and bugs so we have the best of both worlds.
What exactly is a bathtub groundsheet and what are it's benefits? I am a complete newbie and I think we have one in our Coleman Cedar Creek and as we're putting it up for the first time today, I can surprise hubby with my little bit of knowledge.
Sewn--in groundsheets keep out the creepy crawlies to a certain extent also draughts. I'm not bothered one way or the other but the missus is terrified of little critters. She must think they'll crawl up her knicker leg or summat. It must be a girly thing.
we have a bath tub groundsheet and sig in living area,not tried the bathtub yet as only erected once to try out the tent sv8 will be using in anger easter w/e,have also ordered footprint groundsheet from outdoor world 24.99

I love my bath tub ground sheet and SIG in the same tent but different sections/rooms. The bathtub is, well, in the shape of a bathtub with the sides rising up and stops water/bugs/wind etc.. getting into your tent.

But what about when it rains? That can still happen in the summer you know. Especially in Cumbria. So what happens then? Then the water gets into your tent and the grass is cold especially at night. Do you like to feel grass on your feet even if its covered in sloshy mud and drowned insects.

Why would you want a footprint groundsheet for under a bathtub groundsheet? Am I missing something obvious?
I'm with Poppi, we quite often don't use a groundsheet - the rain doesn't seem to matter and wet grass and worms are part of camping aren't they? Mud matters much less when you don't use a groundsheet as it doesn't get trapsed into your tent. The only time I fuss about mud is when we have a SIG otherwise it's no problem.
Isn't the highpoint of a heavy rainstorm going out and camping the worms that have come out or are we just strange?

I don`t bother much with a groundsheet in the living area either. Bathtub groundsheets are 100% necessary in the sleeping pods, but I like the grass outside in the living area. Plus it saves taking your shoes off every time you go in and out the tent. I do like a transitional area in front of the pod doors though for taking shoes off, so we use picnic rugs for that. (Whaddya mean, you can walk on groundsheets in shoes? Err, no, not if you want it to last more than one season....)
As for it getting muddy underfoot, well, not usually because it`s under cover. And if conditions are that bad, I`d rather keep my shoes on and wash a couple of picnic rugs than clean off groundsheets, footprints or SIGS, to be honest.

Well put Valk_scot.Instead of picnic rugs we use those holey foam type mats that are meant for the bathroom and can go into washing machine when you get home.Bare feet can easily be washed in bowl of water or wiped with wetwipesbefore entering bedroom pods; no prob.
