Have bought a Vango Diablo 600 for the 3 of us (2 adults, 1 x 12 year old & possibly a 12 year old friend!) - my query is that at most sites I've been to with a different tent or the site I'm booked into for our main trip (Gwithian Farm, Nr Hayle, Cornwall) the max pitch size is 10m x 10m to include tent & car!
We've got a Picasso, so not a huge vehicle but what do I do if we can't fit on the pitch?!?
We're doing a home pitch this weekend to measure the actual size as Vango's sizes & the shop we bought from the sizes stated differ by a couple of feet!
Also, has anyone been to Gwithian Farm & would you recommend any particular pegs as we've so far only got the standard pegs that came with the tent.
Thanks for your reply Spiny, must just be me panicking!
I spent Easter weekend at a site in Mortehoe, N Devon & there's no way the Diablo 600 would have fitted on the pitch we were allocated let alone the car! Fortunately it was just 2 of us so took my friends Outwell Twin Falls!
Sooo, Delta pegs - have looked at the link, how on earth do they work?!?
Sorry if I'm being daft but what bit of the Delta peg goes through the tent ring/webbing? & would you use Delta pegs at every point/guy rope or just on the main fly sheet fixings?
As I said I'm fairly new to camping & the Diablo 600 is the 1st ever tent I've owned so feeling very 'precious' about it!!
"Official" pitch size for the Vango Diablo 600 is 8metres x 8.5 metres. Info was given to me by a warden at a C&CC site from his list of tents. Will fit on the pitch but need to check what clearance you must give next tent as this may impeded your size.

------------- It'll work out in the end!!!!
I didn't do it !! Nobody saw me do it !! You can't prove anything !!
Thanks all for your responses. This is the info given to me by Vango :- The pitch size for the Diablo 600 is as follows- Length at longest point- 575cm Width at widest point- 805cm Area 22.5m sq Hope this helps. Mike J, when you say to check the clearance do you mean tent to tent or guy ropes? The pitch I was on at Easter was 10.5m x 7m so no way would we have fitted on that even without the car!
Spiny, have you ever had any problems? How long have you had your Diablo 600?
What is a "usual" pitch size? Am seriously considering a 2nd tent for a weekender so haven't got these problems, but want the Diablo for our 2 week hol in the summer (which fortunately is at a 10m x 10m pitch!)
By clearance Mike means the space that you (and everyone else) may be required to leave at the edge of your pitch that joins on to someone else (usually side to side).
You are often required to make sure your tent (excluding guy ropes) is no less than 3 metres inside the edge of your pitch. Your neighbour does the same and this means that there is six metres between your tents in the event of fire. It also gives a little bit of privacy.
So if you've got a pitch which is 10 metres wide you might only be able to pitch your tent on the middle 4 metres. Front to back is not usually an issue as there are usually accessways there.
There appears to be debate over whether this is a legal requirement or just "good housekeeping". In my opinion it's certainly a good practice that protects guests on the site.
"Open field" sites as said above don't have the same issues as the pitches aren't marked.
Edited to add - I'd imagine the sizes quoted to you by Vango don't include guy ropes?
Thankyou for all of your very kind advices - we managed to pitch in our garden yesterday & as it was such a lovely evening actually spent the night in the tent! Only took 1.5 hours from start to finish - Fantastic for 1st go! & far more room than either me or OH remembered from seeing it pitched at our local camping shop.
Only problem is we forgot to measure it before we took it down
1.5 hours is a good first time effort and it will get faster the more you pitch it..........i think the pitch size of 10m x 10m will be big enough for the tent and car
Oh no Piglet you've really set the cat amongst the pidgeons now!! - I was prepared to wing it & now you've cast doubts again - WHAT AM I GONNA DO?!? (We've got a Picasso by the way!)
Surely (I know!!!) there are hundreds of Diablo 600 owners out there - is this a huge problem? Surely I'm not the only the only D600 owner who's gone through this?!?!
This is really interesting as we have just bought our first tent, a Vango Aspen 700 DLX and we too are worried about space........it seemed a good idea at the time???? I am sure both you and i will be fine, lol!!
Always seems like a good idea at the time - bit like that last glass of vino!
OH was desperately against camping & only agreed if we had a tent that would fit our kingsize inflatable (guest) bed as he knew he could sleep on it & a tent that he could stand upright in - so after viewing loads we settled on the D600, which by the way is fab! (apart, apparently from its size!!!!)
P'raps I'm focussing on a really minor point but most sites I've been to would definitely NOT fit our tent & car .........& don't start on the car - we bought a new car, went for the Picasso thinking it would have heaps of room for the 3, sometimes 4 of us and got a roof box and I'm seriously considering having to get a trailer now as we're not gonna have enough room.........but that's another story!!!!
Let's hope we are both fine - else it'll be a hike to the car to get that necessary bit of kit that you just couldn't be bothered to unpack!!!
Sorry Krakinka, I forgot to check "Email Notify me of replies"
Here's our D600 along with car on a 10m square pitch at Skipsea Sands, no problems, just pitch as close to back corner of pitch as possible.
I've even managed to fit on the electric pitches at Flower of May in Filey, which I was told are only 6m pitches but the warden was non too pleased, and I won't be trying that again.
Thanks for that - what a fab foto! We've now ordered a footprint groundsheet, so that should help us to position as far back on pitch as possible - just have to remember to leave enough room for the the guy ropes!
Will look at the link for sites accepting large tents for future expeditions.
Picking your brain - any tips on fitting the rising ground sheet in the porch area?!? - try as we might we can't suss it out!!! Is it just me????
Everyone, thanks all for your advices - can't believe how addictive this forum is!!!
