If it`s right near the end and you have a decent length of elastic left, thread the loose end down the loose pole sections, out through the end ferrule and tie a knot in it to hold the elastic in place. You need to be able to fold the pole up without stretching the elastic too much though.
If not, go to the camping shop and buy a pole repair kit which will basically consist of a long wire rethreading needle and some shock cord. Take out the broken elastic and rethread the pole with new.
Some repair kits also contain spare ferrules and a spare pole section. (Get the right size of these...take a pole section in with you.) I can`t stress enough how important it is to have a basic pole repair kit with you when you go camping. If you`re pitching a tent at 8pm Friday night and snap the elastic or split a section, you can repair the pole in minutes. If not, disaster. (Though you can use a pole without elastic in an emergency.) Everyone should carry a first aid kit for the tent, not just themselves!
at the weekend we put up our tent and inside our poles we have got wire to keep them together oh broke one of these, will it make any difference to the tent when set up. we were just going to leave it. but after reading this i dont know any more

i should imagine it would come apart alot easier if the wind blows...
Thanks val, i've just bought the kit, your right i should have one anyway. I can imagine myself knocking on tents one night with my begging bowl out.....but we're sorted now.
The same thing happened to me last week. It is possible to repair but the joining knot needs to be inside the ferrel. If you only snapped off a little bit ie less than the length of one pole then you need to go and buy a repair kit. I went to pj camping and bought a gelert repair kit only cosy £3.99 and it was quite easy to replace .
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
