We have just returned from our first family camping trip - me, my OH, 7 year old son and 1 year old spaniel. Although looking forward to it, last week I suddenly became more anxious - kept thinking about what weather would be like, did I have everything, have we made good choice with site, etc, etc. Well...... what a fab weekend. We went to Walled Garden Caravan & Camping Site in Ayrshire - beautiful, well maintained site with friendly and very helpful staff/proprieters on site. Facilities were spotless and site was busy - glad we booked in advance! Site was nice and quiet in the evenings. Was also in a great location - a bit out of the way, but not too far either. We went to Girvan and travelled back up the coast via Turnberry and Maidens, both of which were really nice. Couldn't have asked for better! And of course, weather was great too. Can't wait to arrange out next trip - will be somewhere different - but would definitely recommend this site.
Welcome to the site Karen.I'm fairly new here myself but everyone's so friendly and helpful. I'm a born again camper and now wonder why on earth I didn't do it sooner especially as the family really enjoy it.
Well done and Welcome, as you've now been camping you can leave a review of your campsite on the campsite search part of the website so others know what it's like.
Thanks everyone for your kind words and encouragement. Although I joined this forum a couple of weeks ago, I didn't really have much to say. I had been camping before with my friend, but she supplied all the gear and made arrangements, etc. I just tagged along - thoroughly enjoyed it too though! I have posted a review of this campsite which will provide information to others who are considering going. Might even try and get away again next weekend - watch this space - no holding me back now!!!
that's it now you will want to go camping all the time(and weather like this makes camping better) mind you camping in any weather is good camping weather
Funnily enough, my OH and I were chatting about that on way home today - how different would it have been for us if it had rained. Pitching the tent first time took us a good couple of hours - no major problems though. Dog was pegged up on a nice grassed area and my boy was playing in the park and running about, etc. Now we have familiarised ourselves with our Oggie Tanami Tent, next time should be a bit quicker..... hopefully!
welcome and hope you have many more enjoyable trips> We love camping in scotland and have been away with our two 2 and 4 since the first one was very young. Can i ask how did you find the walled garden ? and secondly how was it tempreature wise during the night and the morning at this time of year
Hi Gary & Susan - The Walled Garden was actually a very last minute arrangement. We had originally planned on going up north but the forecast changed (as usual) and we decided to go down the coast. The Walled Garden has it's own website and has a 4 star rating from the Scottish Tourist Board (on their site too). Also on this site, on the Campsite Search. All information on their website is accurate - I think we probably checked everything out when we were there. Very, very well maintained. When we arrived, they gave us an information sheet which detailed Site Rules and Conditions which, after reading, we were glad of. We were told that the "rules" had been written, after previous bad experiences and that they wished to ensure the enjoyment of the site is not spoilt by lack of consideration for others. No complaints on our part - we knew straight away that we would have no problems on this site! Which had been another of my pre-trip worries!! Also a lot of regulars who pitch their caravans for the season and travel back and forward every weekend. One of them very kindly helped us pitch our tent. Mainly caravans, but there were 4 tents in during our 2 night stay. First night was warmer than 2nd, although not overly cold on 2nd either. 2nd night was windier which cooled the tent down quicker, even after a warm, sunny day. I will take a hooded fleece to wear over my pjs next time!! Any other questions about our trip or the site, please feel free to ask.
Hi Catherine - I'm still learning too! Only been one trip, after all! We bought a really good tent from the Towsure Website - Oggie Tanami 6 Person Tent. Very spacious - plenty of room for the 3 of us plus the dog. Depends what you're looking for though. Let me know how you get on.
we hoping to head away this weekend comming all going to plan. Considered visitng brother in troon so thought this site could be good. Just a wee bit wary of tempreatures at mo, but then again, our two are usually wrapped up well enough. If you ever require any advice on sites in scotland feel free to ask. We also sometimes use the chatroom on this site so maybe see you in there some time. welcome to a very addictive hobby and website lol
