When we decamped this weekend we discovered 2 out of 5 air beds were damp (almost wet) on the top side of the airbed. Our sleeping method was: SIG, sleeping compartment, airbed, old sleeping bag to cover airbed and reduce cold. Then our sleeping bags and then a blanket. So the moisture was on the air bed and under the old sleeping bag. Is this a common problem? Is there any way to eliminate it?
Its caused by your body heat hitting the colder air in the bed and condensing. Try putting a roll up camping mat on top of the bed under your sleeping bags, you could secure the mat and old sleeping bag in place with a fitted sheet.

We use a cheap plastic backed picnic rug under the airbed and an olsd sleeping bag on top .. does the trick. A lot of people recommend putting something under the airbed... e.g. silver backed rollup mats - they had them in Lidl last week for a fiver.

We had that problem last year. Last weekend we put a picnic blanket under the airbeds and a furry throw on top of the airbed secured by a fitted sheet. No damp and very snug.
We had this same problem at the weekend, we had a picnic blanket under the airbed, a rblanket on top of it and then the sleeping bag and still it was damp between the airbed and the blanket.
We brough loads of picnic blankets from m&s cheaply last year think they were 50p each. We put one under the air bed and one on top then a fitted sheet to hold it in place, that works well for us.

Hi Hippy will that work with a readybed, cos I have bought those following another thread, since the covering on top of airbed is thin,I plan to wedge mat between both to avoid any damp and increase warmth too.
Put some insulation under the bed as well as above then you will be all warm and toasty and not at all damp. lol
I always put my bedding to air during the day as well.
Usually in the back of the car, just being me. But if there was a whole lot of stuff, say for a family, I would lift the sleeping bags onto chairs while out for the day, and allow the other bedding to air nicely.
Wish I could take an airing cupboard as well as the kitchen sink. Now there's a thought....
We too, had this problem at the weekend and OH accused us (daughter and I) of sweating. His side was dry. We thought how on earth could it be sweat, when half the night we were cold and it would have meant it going through clothing, and through the sleeping bag that lies on top of the airbed. Now we know! This site is a mine of information!
Good point about airing snowbird, Because when hot and out for the day tents can get real sweaty, and if damp is tramped below the tent gets even worse. I have a horrid story of a sweaty sick filled tent while in the south of france! Not repeating that story!
we are putting old sleeping bags under air beds with fitted fleece/ sheeps wool sheets on top and then bags.
Thanks to this site, I've started using a silver mat under the airbed. It works like magic. I don't use anything on top as I've replaced the airbed in the readybed and it's a bit tight.

Yes it will work with a ready bed, both my boys have single ready beds and I put a camping mat with a blanket on top between the air bed and sleeping bag. I had to cut some of the length of my youngest's mat as he only has the junior not the standard single but the width was fine. Its a bit of a bu**er getting in in place but once there it works a treat.
I have tried rolling the beds up with everything in place, but they are just too bulky to go back in the bag, have toyed with the idea of getting a bag for a double sleeping bag.
My boys also have homemade fleece liners in their ready beds and they are always toasty warm, even on frosty nights, in fact my eldest quite often wriggles out of his liner as he is too hot!
