im new to camping so dont have a clue what one is, but iv heard alot of u mention them on here?what is it and how much do they cost?im so clueless!!

A Tarpaulin.  Traditionally an oil coated cloth to provide waterproofing. General terms now to describe waterproof coverings whether oil based or synthetic, eg groundsheets etc

Well said Al, I was gonna say that myself. We use tarpaulins under the SIG`s of our tents to keep the SIG`s clean and dry, as with such large tents it makes it far easier to dry them out and pack them away.

You can also use tarps for shelter....... have a look at the bottom of this page at Tarps to give you an idea.

Almost all camping shop sell them in various thicknesses and sizes they range from about £7 upwards. We got a 14 foot squre for £12 from our local camping shop.

B&Q do very cheap tarpaulins. Even cheaper is a decorator's sheet from a pound shop - for a pound.
