Our trip to France this year is costing us approx £1500 for campsite fees with EHU, long ferry crossing with trailer, overheight vehicle and cabin plus insurance for us and the car...and that`s for nearly five weeks for four of us. We`re not going to huge commercial campsites but every one of them has a pool and small bar and shop. Yes, we`ll have food and fuel costs on top of this, but we reckon we`d spend more at home on a day to day basis because of treats and activities for the kids.

What would you get for £1500 if you wanted to go on a package holiday in July?

We have just returned from a 4 night break starting on bank holiday Monday (in gale force winds)

3 huge tents 8 people 1 dog  1 trailer 3 cars £60 in total. Hook up was an extra £2 per night per unit if required.

Basic facilities, yes, but who cares for £60.00 quid.

We are going to scotland for 2 weeks to celebrate our silver wedding later in the year the cottage alone is costing £1,200 without fuel/insurance/breakdown/food costs.

Will not do it again though, much rather go camping with our mates.

Got a deal for £9 an night (at least 5 nights in June) with EHU at Utility Park Resort Burnham on Sea. It upped to £14 when we added extra car and kitchen tent but £98 for a week with swimming pool and some entertainment cant be bad. Going on the 21st and cant wait.

Took up camping to save money but now have booked 2 week trips and a weekend this year so just a expensive as the old week in a hired caravan when you add up spending money etc let alone the money spent in the camping shops for new additions to the set up -  florecent guy ropes, new sleeping bag, kitchen tent, delta pegs, kids waterproof jackets and thats just this year!!

The dearest place I went to was in Devon - at a place called woodlands and for me and the 2 boys with small tent no EHU and a car we were charged £23 a night - this was a bit excessive but it was a pleasant site had lovely facilities free freezers for iceblocks, a clubhouse - laundrette which was cheap enough and free entry into woodlands park everyday we were there - only critism is that I like space between me and my neighbour no matter how well we got on - thought we were being packed in like sardines - high season - lets get some more in - but that was back in 2004.

The site I use regularly charges me £26 for 2 nights which I dont think is bad considering the last time I stayed in a B + B it cost me nearly £40 and I did not have en-suite - but as long as I think that I  am getting value for money then it does not matter to me!

Would rather be camping than hotelling any day of the week!

£25 for a weekend is usually our spend limit for a weekend
