For UK camping I would choose a 3 season (assuming you're not thinking of winter camping).  It can get very cold at night even in July/August, especially if you're on the coast.  If it gets too warm it's easy to just undo the zip and push it of a bit.

We bought the "Wynnster Trail" sleeping bags from Winfields and I would highly recommend them as I always feel the cold - these are real toasty ! £12.99 each and seemingly mid-range when we compared comfort and temp. ratings. but we felt they were ideal for us and we were not disappointed.

They are a straight design (we don't like mummy bags either!) with a brushed cotton lining which is lovely and cosy and it also has a hooded top so you can zip it all the way up if you want to. Oh....and they're blue so ok for boys too !! I have never felt so toasty and comfy so a real good buy.

Argos do the highest "tog" rated sleeping bag we've come across (500microns??) but it's only available on the website - black and silver design - around £25.00 each but I can't speak from experience as to quality. Worth a look maybe.....

We have the Coleman Hudsons and they are really really toasty.  been to France with them and used them in the UK and rarely needed the heating on in the van.
