We have been today, and it is still closed - the girl on the gate was still giving out the gift vouchers, and said that they would be closed for a few more weeks yet...
She did say that they would be having a massive marquee put up in a field just down the road in a couple of weeks, and will be selling off all the stock from there.
Hostingley lane was under water just after you turned into it and there were police that had closed off the road as you turn into it.
The canal next the be bingley arms was over flowing its banks and looked like the river trent. If I had a canoe I would have been able to do some white water rafting down it.
I don't think Mitchells will be open for a while now.
Went there last Tuesday and it's open and running Everything is being sold off cheaply. Got hook up cheaper, new tent for £89 instead of £174, saw it displayed in field alongside and it was just what I wanted - something easier for me and my sister to erect! Boxes are damaged but inside goods are as good as new. Living in Barnsley it's easier to get to and park than the Sheffield CCC. Glad I discovered it.
My daughter works at Go Outdoors. The fact that they opened the weekend before last, is due to the incredible effort made from all the staff - and believe me that first weekend's work necessitated wellies and rubber gloves.....
The first weekend they opened with flood damaged sale the queues were hours long. Many folk were rude about the length of time queuing. It couldn't be helped and I am sure if they thought about, it the fact that people were parking well outside the carpark up to Middlestown, Horbury Bridge and Thornhill, should have given them a small clue that it was going to be a tad busy. Plus folk were turning up without the discount cards and only then signing up for one.......
Even so - she loves her job and the majority of the customers are lovely - aren't we?
We love Go Outdoors, but we are closest to the one Loughborough. Most of their deals are hard to beat. We wanted to go to the sale, but it was such a long drive and after hearing that, I'm glad we didn't. We did phone, not knowing they were that busy and they kept us on hold forever and we were on a cell. Have to admit, that upset us, we ended up just hanging up. Thing is, we're patient and understanding, if they knew they would have a hard time answering our question, they could have just said they were extrememly busy and could take phone queries at the time. I give them an A for trying to help, but I can imagine as soon as they went to look for the tent, they were pounced on by a ton a other people who took the time to go to the store.
We don't hold it against them, we know now why it happened.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
