Yes you were right to complain. Most considerate campers try and keep noise to a minimum after midnight if not a lot earlier. I don't know your circumstances but if you're able to, try an adults only site, we've never had that sort of bother when we use them. Otherwise a lot of sites have a rule that tells campers to keep the noise down late at night and will ask people to leave if they don't stick to the rules. I think you've just been unlucky with your choice of site
I don't think being on an Adult only site would have helped in this case, as I sincerely hope it was the adults settling in for a game of poker, not the kids!!!
Usually, people with children tend to have lights off and quiet things down way earlier on that these people did. Just unfortunate you were next to them. Better luck next time eh,

you were well in your right to complain but if it had been me once i woke up in morning i would of gone out my way to be noisy banging pans wen doing breakie/brew closing car door a little loud if they complain tell them "its not nice is it being woken by inconsiderate ppl "
we had this last week in cornwall - 2am-5am, its not the fact so much as i was woken up, its the inconsideration of the continuing to make noise, shouting between tents - in the end I got up and spoke to them, but it shouldnt have to come to that, consideration and manners cost nothing,
You had every right to complain and well done for doing it. Its not nice when that happens. I must admit we are very wary of trying commercial sites for that main reason really, thats why we like to stick to the camping club because you very and i will say very rarley would get that sort of thing happen because of the silent rule after 11pm. But it sounds as though this is your first experience so may be just a little unlucky this time, but darned annoying at the same time. We had it once happen to us when we tried a camping club certified site but that was the first time in 6 years.
You were right to complain Sal, or you could take the approach the campers near us did afew years ago.
We were at ashurst in the new forest and the van near us was a seasonal pitch, he seemed to think this gave him the right to have wild partys every night both inside and outside his awning, these partys went on till about 4am. Although our kids slept through it, we didn't.
The family in the TT next to us was one of a group of 3, and I think they were somesort of musical addicts as every evening they had a great singalong, they had their own instuments and the kids all took it in turns to sing solo. They were just like the von traps! It didn't bother us though as they were generally done by 8.30-9.00ish. In fact they invited us over a few times to join in, but its not our cup of tea, if I had sung I would have empted the campsite. Well one of the chaps from this group were so fed up of the van with the wild partys that at 5.30 am just an hour after they had finally shut up he went round the back of their van with a penny whistle and played it badley and very loudly! got a bit of a response from the occupants of the van I tell you, but they didn't have a party that night.
