our nine month baby has been camping with us twice and seemed to thoroughly enjoy it both times. However, this last time he woke up about half four each morning and wouldn't settle until I had taken him on a walk to a nearby stream. He was found each morning screeching to attract our attention and standing in his travel cot; as soon as we woke up he started beaming!!!!
presumably it's the light that wakes him - does anyone have any good ideas please??
Hi there
You got me thinking again, not good for my decreasing brain powerWhat about one of these very small playhouses
that you buy for little children,You could play with the little one in it at first to get them used to it.and add a extra cover at night.
Just a thought.

It may be the light that is waking him, and putting some dark fabric over part of the pod he is in will help with that, but your response of picking him up and going for a wee walk will have created that expectation for him now.... which is why he was more likely to wake and stand up waiting for you again- in effect your response "rewarded" his behaviour, so he will be likely to repeat it.
So you also need to think about how you respond to his early waking - if you make it as dull and uninteresting as possible it will not give an incentive for him to repeat the behaviour.
Mind he cannot smother or strangle himself with any covering you put over or around his travel cot!
If your tent has an 'inner' then you could pin (nappy pins perhaps) some dark lightweight cloth above the inner tent cloth (making it a double layer). Perhaps an old sheet.
thank you for your suggestions. perhaps we could pin blackout or thick material to the outside of the inner layer of the tent. We have a vango ventura 500 tent - very good.
If I remember right ,most of the light in the Vango venture comes in from the front ,could ou rig up some kind of curtain afair in front of the sleeping area ?
