get a tent with a sig and use all the flyscreens on your tent to reduce the numbers....but to be honest you'll still get some!

Try not to leave food out on the table or kitchen ants will find the jam jar and sugar pot irresistible.------------- Kate

Hi
We were on a pitch a few years ago that had an ant nest in the far corner and they soon found our tent, so we put a thin trail of ant powder around the edge of the tent and it worked well, had to repeat it if it rained hard for a while, but it definatly worked.

I am absolutely petrified of spiders and our first few camping trips in a vis a vis Tesco value tent with a removable central groundsheet were not pleasant for me but after investing in a new tent this season with a SIG I am seriously impressed with the lack of bugs and creepy crawleys. 'Touch wood', no spiders since the change so I would definately recommend these types of tents.

I put the essential oil neat on the groundsheets without a problem.
I have not put any on fabric or the tent walls though.
After watching an episode of How Clean is your House with Kim & Aggie, they suggested making a room spray using a favourite essential oil, in this case citronella oil, mix it with cheap vodka and put in a spray bottle - perhaps that would work!
...although I can think of better uses for vodka!

Hi,
I take a bottle of spider stop with me as I am also petrified of spiders.
As others have said having a sig is a great deterrent and citronella candles.
