So we're back from Devon, South Dartmoor, after trying our new Vango Colorado 800 dlx and i've got to say that i am really impressed, the tent remained intact in 40 mile an hour multi directional winds on the side of a hill with sparse shelter, a week of continuous and heavy wind driven rain and several tents being flattened and their steel poles snapping.
We used Delta ground anchors on each guyline and they were awesome, didn't move a fraction during the whole week, the Khyam day tent was pinned with the anchors aswell, 6 outside and i jury rigged four inside with some para-cord.
I did learn that although the colorado can have the side door sleeping compartment free of a sleeping pod that by adding the sleeping pod the poles flexed outwards less due to inward resistance and the tent was a lot more stable.
Sooo no leaks/ rips/ Snaps/ Sun!!!
But we saw the Devils couldron, went to the Eden project, Went in wookey hole and Gough's and Cox's caves in Cheddar gorge and bought loads of scrumpy! Can't wait 'till the next trip now! Once i can walk straight anyway...
Near the gorge, glorious walk! We usually do Castle Drogo in the morning and the gorge in the afternoon. Our van is down at Chudleigh so familiar area for us. Now get booking 'cos September is gonna see a late summer.......

Funnily enough I am going hill walking in the Pennines in September but i'll be going with 2 friends and taking one of my smaller tents. Been camping 6 times this year since i started helping with the cubs....what an excellent way to get culture shocked though!

Thanks Paul, that's an absolutely cracking recommendation for Delta pegs.
Pity about the weather though.

Delta Ground Anchors..the strongest, most secure tent pegs in the world! Nylon anchors twice as efficient as rock pegs in 'average' soil! Quality stainless pegs for tougher soil are available.
I was at Lydford last week. Last Mon night/Tues morn was the pits, never known rain/wind like it. But in true Vango fashion my Beta 350 repelled it all! Roll on summer ........

Credit where credit is due mate Have you given any thought to smaller alloy versions for technical tents? Prehaps folding versions?
Thank you. We have an 80% nylon version but it would take probably another £9000 to produce a mould. One of our very early prototypes was a folding stainless version but would cost so much to make that it wouldn't be worth it.
