So, who was it who said Cromer was going to be okay this week?!!
We arrived on Sunday and had to put three tents up in TORRENTIAL rain. The only reason we bothered at all was because we had 15 children (yes 15) and they were all so excited, plus the forecast was that it would clear on Monday.
So, cue torrential downpours - the rain did not stop for about 10 hours, the winds were of the gale variety. My Montana 12 leaked all over the place and there were kids in soaking puddles in their beds. At 3.00 a.m. myself and two friends had to go outside and try to hold the tent down in the torrential rain and try to tighten the guy ropes further so it didn't just blow away totally.
By 11.00 a.m. Monday the rain still hadn't stopped so we packed up three tents, again in the torrential rain and drove 2.5 hours home again. All I can say is that it hasn't put me off camping because I have previously been very lucky with the weather BUT it was the trip from hell.
So, come on, admit it, who told me that Cromer was going to be okay?!!!!!
We went to Cornwall last week. It rained and rained with gale force winds. Several campers ended up with broken poles. we have an aspen 700 which stood up to the weather but the night times were spent looking up out of our sleeping bags waiting for lift off.
By Saturday after four days of rain and wind we gave up and came home early.
Never mibd Sept is suppose to be good so we will try again (maybe nearer to home though)

Everyone brings happiness to my life, some when they arrive and some when they leave.
I think we need a weather check around the country as its been quite good here yesterday and today. The weekend was bit wet and windy but nothing that bad.
Endured the same horizontal rain when we arrived in Cornwall last Friday but on Sunday it brightened up (although it was still windy until Tuesday). We chanced on local assurances that the weather was due to change mid-week and extended our stay for a couple of days to make up for the rain - glad we did as we now have nice tans!
Still had a few hairy moments at 1am checking guys though (sun canopies + wind = Bad Idea). Thank goodness for Delta Pegs, I say!
It was meant to be okay in Cromer (but I'm not the only one that said that!!) I think we faired better as we arrived in Norfolk on the Monday, after the heavy rain had stopped, so we just had to contend with a muddy campsite and damp weather all week until Saturday.

aj xx
we arrived at wells-next-the-sea a few miles up coast on monday (20th). we had mainly strong winds, not much rain, until wednesday when we decided to go home before the tent blew down. We were told that it rained 10pm onwards sunday night and didn't stop til 6am monday.
I wouldn't have gone , but the campsite I was going to said they weren't flooded or anything, turned up and they were!!

We went to Cornwall last Friday and had the same winds and rain to endure. As usual, our tent stood strong against it. But when it stopped mid-week it was fantastic and we've come home tanned too! Was worth the first couple of bad days!
OMG - you poor things. That was deffo the trip from hell!!! Hope its not put you off.
We were in East Devon all last week. It started to rain on Sunday evening and didnt stop until 4.30pm Monday afternoon. We had the dreaded gales too. Thankfully our tent stood firm and dry (on the inside) although I have to admit to opening the curtains once or twice and being really scared at the rising water in the field!!!
Think the rain stopped just in time to avoid us bein flooded out!! After that we had a wonderful sunny eveing, beautiful sun set and fabulour sunny hot weather for the rest of week.
It is so disappointed when the weather is lousy. When we were away for our main holiday at the end of July we were very tempted to pack up early because of the weather. I think the only reason we held out, was in the hope that the weather might just change for the better. It did on the Saturday we were due to come home.
One of the things I love about camping, is that even if the weather is lousy, if you get a break in the rain the kids can go and play out. This is what happened with us. As soon as it was fit, the kids were out playing with other kids in the play area.
I am going back to the same area at the weekend. Just hope that the weather is good, and this time the wetsuits will see the light of day.
Just come back from Snettisham in Norfolk had 3 days of sunshine but it was very muddy still on site so I thought that they must have had some heavy rain. Sorry to hear it ruined your holiday, you can cope with most things as long as the tent does not leak. Had to buy wellies one year to get my son to the toilet block as the water was that deep.
Isn't that odd that it can be dreadful in Cromer and Wells yet about 22 miles inland it was gorgeous all weekend. We didnt see any rain in Norwich or Hunstanton at all. We are off to Bristol soon so we are crossing everything that the weather will be OK then.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
