Sounds fantastic, well done you, it sounds a challenge with three children.

Which Outwell do you have - we are about to get a new Outwell but not sure which one to get.

We used to do something similar in the late 1950s - Parents and three of us children, 5, 10 and 12 (I was the middle one!)  We had a Standard 10 "shooting brake" and a roof rack - not a lot of space when packed up!  We used to go straight through France, spend 10 days in Italy and return via Switzerland, Germany, Holland, and Belgium - 3 weeks in all.

Whatever you buy your children in the future, I would almost guarantee that you will have just given them the greatest gift of all - memories.  50 years on, I still have very vivid and comprehensive memories of our trips abroad - together with hundreds of colour slides which my father took.

Here goes, hope i remembered all the "Q"'s

Driving styles- France nice, safe and clean on the motorway. Over take and get right back in. Italy completely different and tailgate like mad. But as i am a delivery driver, i gave as good as i got and loved the challenge.

Belgium and Switzerland a mixture between the other 2 really.

Guess we got lucky on the pitch sizes. We have a Outwell indianna 8 and always had enough lengh room and room for car to which can be prob with large tent. Its a tunnel tent though. We did use a little 5 berth whilst traveling down and kept the big boy for when we arrived in Italy

We stayed in 2 sites in Switzerland both in Luzern. Got pics of my kids swimming in the lake early in morning with the snow capped mountains behind.

I can see money can be a issue but when in the past i have saved hard and spent £1000 on flights alone to a holiday resort for 5 of us to Lanzorotee and been sooo bored i think this is worth the hard save through out the year.

In middle buying a new house so trying to put pennies back now for a cheap camping trip to Holland next year.

£140 for tunnel crossing, enough diesel for a couple hours drive North and the price for a weeks pitch. Now that ain't going to be expensive holiday is it and if i start saving now fingers crossed i will have enough in time. Oh and i don't smoke so this helps  but do like my red wine

YOU ALL SHOULD GO FOR IT. MEMORIES ARE FOREVER.

Sounds ' pure dead brilliant ' as we say up here. I wonder what your kids will remember in the future? Lying on a beach in some resort or swimming in Lake Garda with snow covered mountains for a backdrop?  No contest.

Sounds like an absolutely awesome trip. I went to Switzerland at Easter many years ago and it was beautiful.

One question, did you manage to fit all of your gear inside a car or did you use a trailer?

Fantastic - you lucky people! We went to France when my girls were younger and travelled throughout for three weeks and I thought that was brilliant.  Your memories are there forever.  Think of the fun you can have this winter when planning next years trip!

Hoping to do something similar ourselves next year. We have just come back from 4 wks travelling France. With 3 kids aged 8 12 & 13 years we were a little concerned about how they would cope with traveeling more than 3,000 miles. Our concerns were a waste of time they coped brilliantly and loved the opportunity to experience so many differnt places in 1 holiday.
