I am going camping next year for the first time. Its for scouting jamboree and i am taking my four year old son. I have bought a sleeping bag (it's a winter one, i get cold in the sahara....ha ha ha) and i have just bought the Outwell Oregon 5 tent because it was on offer and i was told that it was easy to put up. It also has divided sleeping area which i like. I was thinking of getting the self inflating bed as i am on the larger side and think that a camp bed will be uncomfortable. Now what else should i be buying?
I don't know about scouting so you may need a stove and cooking utensils and possibly a coolbox.
Lantern
flashlights
insulated cup, great for keeping your drink hot or cold
Fun stuff to occupy little one
Chairs
table to eat at
For sleeping, try the JRC Chair bed
I take a trailer load of gear so I could go on but then you may need a lorrie.
If its for a Scout Group trip all you should need is tent ( if the group cant provide you with one), sleeping bag, mat (foam or self inflating), torch and your gear. All the cooking equipment etc should be provided by the group and they will probably cook for everyone.

Have a look at the check off list on the main page of this forum.....also it depends on what camping you are doing. Whether its a quick weekend away or 2 weeks on the south of france etc
I've helped out at a couple of cub camps and all I've needed is sleeping gear (bag, self-inflating mat, pillows), washing kit, eating utensils, clothes/wet weather kit, torch/lantern. Additional items I've found useful are sharp knife, matches/lighter, bar-b-que tongs. But most important of all is alcohol for when the little cherubs are all tucked up in bed! Your beaver/cub/scout group should be able to tell you what you'll need and what they'll provide.
I would take a small cheap stove and a kettle with me just so that you can make a cup of coffe or tea for youself when you want it eg 1st thing in the morning and just before bed. it will come in handy when you go camping on your own after rhe scout camp.
