Having only camped twice in my life, I am curious about winter camping, we have a few days off work between Christmas and New Year, and were thinking of a few days camping, if the weather has been reasonably dry, not booking anything, will leave it to the last minute, but wondering if any of you have advice on how to cope, is it realistic to do, etc.,

We camp in the winter with kids and yes, its easy if you have the right kit. My advide would be:

1. Check weather forecast, if met office forecast gales don't go! (from our experience last new year!!!)

2. Buy EHU and a 2kw fan heater, leave it on low all the time. Helps to keep tent dry and you warm.

3. Insulate your airbeds. Have a layer underneath, another on top, sleeping bags and fleece liners or extra blankets. You can take layers off if too hot.

4. There aren't many family 4 season tents, however, we use one with a high HH, double skin, and steel poles. Sturdy and waterproof!

There's been lots of posts on this so if you search on here for winter camping you'll get more advice. Go for it and have fun!

I, too, would like to try autumn/winter camping.  Is it feasible to do so in a pop-up tent?
