Been camping for a while ,but can never seem to keep warm enough in the evenings around easter time. Any suggestions ? We have a 6 berth frame tent with a 2 kw heater but it just doesnt seem enough.
Plenty of layers. Thermal long sleeved top & bottoms with fleece trousers/fleecy lined joggers on top; thin polo-neck jumper/fleece top & jacket. Those fleecey bed socks keep your feet toasty inside the faux fur slipper boots. A snood hood or fleece hat with ear warmers is a good idea too.
I've found that ski gloves are great to wear in the tent - they have a grippy palm & fingers, so you can fill the kettle & make a cuppa, or open a bottle of wine & pour it without having to take the gloves off.
If you're still cold, wrap yourself in a fleece blanket or sleeping bag liner
Fleecy blankets/throws are great and can be picked up fairly reasonably.
Mine is dual purpose - I use it in my sleeping bag, as it can be whipped out if I am too warm, and just put as an extra layer. Then if I'm cold of an evening I will use it 'grandad' style, wrapped around my shoulders. Have been known to have one across my knees as well.
Layers is the way to go, as they can be added/removed as the weather dictates. How often have we set out in the morning wrapped up looking like the Michelin Man, only to find that by mid day we are stripping off. Don't forget we can get lovely weather in March as well as some pretty cold stuff.
I am planning my break at the moment. Just going to take plenty of layers - oh and two kids in the sleeping bag with me to keep me warm.
Wew camped at Easter oncve and the nighttime temperature was below freezing but we were toasty :)
You need GOOD sleeping bags ,there is no substitute for this
We use a EHU and a halogen heater left on all night when its very cold
Also you need to make sure you change into your night things before the sun goes down ,you can always put your day clothes back ontop but never change into cold clothes before going to bed as you waste al your body heat warming them up first .If you have technical sleeping bags are you are better off sleeping nakey as your body heat willl warm up the bag and the bag will store the heats and return it back to you
I take my hat off to people who can camp at Easter. I feel the cold sooo easily and even in June I've been wearing extra layers and had extra blankets. Never had to wear a hat or gloves though.
