Hi. Well, I've now got two trips away booked for later in the year and the tent bags are all labelled. I did wonder about putting up a tent on some pretext or other but decided it wouldn't be much fun handling the poles in such cold weather! MT

Liddenham, thats a brilliant Idea as although they may not have the tents ready for supply they will however have them or at least one made up they could really go round this with a video cam inside and out and give us what we want..
we can then look at the tents on the puter and have some idea of which of the 15 this season we want to buy...
maybe all 15...lolol
I have made matters worse for me I have the caravan now and still look at potential new tents ( I already have 8 and two awnings) I need to see the doctor...

How did you label the bags Merry,
Not very well! I used blank envelopes, as they would be a bit more robust than a single sheet of paper and wrote on the contents in bold felt pen, with a list underneath in biro of other accompanying items /bags needed eg poles, pegs. Then I stuck the label on the bag with parcel tape.
I think the super duper Piglet method involves colourcoding the labels for all bags associated with any one tent, producing word processed labels off the computer, laminating the labels and then attaching them to the tent bag(s) somehow or other. MT

It does, we have a laminator so we got some of the small pouches, printed off the description of the item on one piece of paper, a list of what goes with it on another bit of paper and put them back to back in the pouch, laminated it and then hole punched it and stuck it on a bit of string.
Different coloured bits of paper for different tents (blue for the Andorra, green for the Antigua etc) as OH is dyslexic so it's easier for him to pick up all the bits of kit with the same coloured label on. The list on the back gives you a fighting chance of remembering all of the bits!
I'm not completely anal, I don't file my CD's in alphabitical order but I do worry about getting to a campsite with the wrong bits of tent!! OH once got to France to discover that he had the Coleman Sahara and the poles for the Sunncamp dayroom! Luckily he had the Coleman poles as well but as he'd had to shoehorn all the bits in the car, it took up valuable wine space!
The goo dpoint about laminating the labels is thatthey would be waterproof. I suspect my rough'n'ready labels won't last very long at the first sign of dampness - either the felt pen ink will run or the labels themselves will disintegrate. But I was quite happy playing with the tent bags on Saturday and if I wanted I could always redo the labels properly now that I've had one go and can see how to do them better next time. MT

Well I think I am going to have to label some of mine now because I'm not too sure which ones have what in them and wouldn't want to drive to the south of France or somewhere and find I've brought the wrong stuff!
I thought this camping was supposed to be a relaxing occupation, now I am paranoid as well as suffering from some other strange disorder.
Fellow campers, I have a suggestion that might just solve your itch, GO CAMPING, we did last weekend and honestly it was beautiful, granted we have EHU for a fan heater kept on low all night and I have a 5 season sleeping bag so there was no way we were going to be cold. We are already planning to go weekend after next again, it would probably be next weekend instead but we cant as we are off to the NEC show thingy. Go for it.
We've booked our summer camping trip and made enquiries for two weekend trips away for April and May. You'd be surprised how many places are booked up already!
We also spend most weekends looking round camping and outdoor shops, getting excited at all the equipment and tents - and usually end up buying something! Doesn't really ease the itch because it makes us more impatient to go camping! We're suprised at the people who've braved the cold and gone camping already. How do they manage to get the tent pegs into the frozen ground - assuming it's hard as a rock as it is round here?!
We arrived to pitch at about 1 in the afternoon and it had been sunny all day to that point so the ground was surprisingly soft, we didnt pack up until after lunch yesterday so again the ground had been warmed up by the sun, first thing in the morning it certainly was white, almost looked like snow, all crunchy under foot but I would say it was still possible to put a peg in the ground.
Pitched in the garden! Just to check everything OK of course. As soon as tent was out f the bag it just made the itch worse. Am now itching so much am covered in a BIG red rash!
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
