We gave up after 2 days of of constant rain and 40mph+ gusts of wind ,arrived on Thursday and lasted 2 days the came home , had planned to stay 4 at Normans bay near Hastings, we knew we were in for trouble we we arrived only one other tent was on site.
The wind was almost constant with up to 48mph+ gusts according to the met office website, the Montana 6 stood up well but it wasn`t much fun not knowing if the next gust of wind would be too much for the tent to take.
The EHU went out several times (6+) duriing the time we were there , which worried us that it may not come back on again.
The kids had fun I guess , but not a great experience packing up in near gale force winds with driving rain, still nothing was damaged and no one was hurt, but I must say I will be more careful in future camping this early in the season.

Hi Robecox.
All campers go through these experiences, some survive and carry on camping some drift back to the warmth of an hotel room. Next year at this time may be dry with no wind. But realistic family camping in my opinion is a six months out of the 12 in a tent,
But good for you for giving it a go, we all go on learning something every time we pitch and it is not always pleasant .
Just think of the excitement those kids had, well worth it.

was booked in there for easter but 6 weeks ago ruptured my achilles tendon and still in plaster so cancelled the trip as felt it would be a bit impaired with me not being able to walk and a bit hard on girlfriend to put up six berth tent while i sat in car.Looks like we might have ahd a lucky escape hopefully cast off soon and weather improving for next time

We just had similar in Teversal. Can do rain and snow but continual battering from wind straight through the vents was not good. Two storm straps in the awning made me feel a tad better. we were the only trailer tent on site which again should really have made us suspect we were crazy. The experience was not good and in 2 years is the first time I really have wanted to come home. I am looking forward to next trip but I think I will have to make myself think about all the good times or I wont end up going. It has certainly shaken me up. I cant fault my wonderful children though. They stayed in the bed and then in the car for 5 hours in total as we packed up and they never moaned once. Kids seem to take camping in their stride and know the routine well despite my guilt feelings it does not seem to have done them any harm.
Went on the SW meet, arrived friday afternoon and by 6am Sat we were packing (more like cramming) everything back in the cars! The kids slept beautifully, but we adults had a very hairy night and I didn't sleep a wink -kept thinking the tent was about to give up the ghost! Delta's were fab, but we did find a shattered pole when we pulled the tent down That said, I think we got off lightly.
What an experience ...I have the utmost respect for all those who lasted the weekend!
