Incidentally the separate footprint groundsheets that you can buy are excellent for working out the best pitching arrangement on sites where space is a bit tight.
I sent the dimensions of our diablo tent to a campsite owner requesting wether they would accept us on their site and they replied as long as the overall dimensions did not exceed 30 square metres it would be fine.... I looked it all up on the internet and Vango stated it was 27 square metres this didn't sound right to me so we just e-mailed a picture of the dimensions along with the measurements and they came back with - YEP its fine as its 27 square metres so ...the answer to your question is ....27 square metres.... There I got there in the end!
I second what Peridot says about the footprint we just got ours following advice from on here and its great for enabling you to position your tent accurately in a tight space and for keeping the SIG clean!
Thats what I thought and why I only sent the dimensions and picture as above and thats when they too came back with the same size that Vango stated didn't want to mislead about the actual size of the tent in case we had issues fiiting it on the pitch when we turned up!!
I still don't know how they worked it out to be this!
Surely a campsite owner is only interested in how much land you need to put your tent on - usable space is irrelevant to them? Although it serve to prove how inefficient spread domes are as by my maths last night you're looking at a pitch size in excess of 55 square metres for the Diablo.
Usable space is only relevant if you're planning to chop the tent into bits and put it back together like a tunnel tent
Make sure you dont arrive on site to find that the pitch is 5m x5m because it wont fit. I agree with Piglet in that you really need a 10 x 10 pitch to accomodate a Diablo and a car. When we used our D900 we did visit some sites where we had to pitch diagonally because the tent is longer than it is wide.

6th July Moving to Hayle
We have just brought a Vango Diablo 900 xp, Can't wait to start the many camping trips this summer, , Getting concerned about, What campsites will except our tent as we believe it is 30sq/m or over, we will be campsiting in Devon and Cornwall this summer
Try Mother Iveys Bay in Cornwall (near Padstow) the pitches are 11m x 8m so should be fine. It's a great site on a headland with beaches either side, out of season it's beutiful and quiet, we've been many times, however we went there in August last year and it's a different story! we won't be returning in school hols again (at least not untill forced to when our 2 start school!)
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
