I'm probably in the minority but I wouldn't touch tinned meat, we use a butcher at home and find out where the nearest one is in advance when away camping. We also prefer to keep it simple when camping, crusty bread can bulk a meal out. Our favourite is 'Mummy's camping mix' -
brown a couple of chopped chicken breasts & an onion, then add some chopped chorizo sausage (easy to store), add a green or red chopped pepper then a tin of chopped tomatos and let is all bubble gently for a bit. You can either boil up some rice on a separate burner or add the rice and some water to the main pot, it's an ideal one-pot dish. Absolutely scrummy!!!

Ok then why not try a slow cooker. If you have ehu that is. If you do not have one at home then you can pick a really good one up from Argos for £9.99. Chicken, Lamb, Beek, Pork any of those. Diced and thrown in with a load of veg and pour a colemans casserole mix over the top. Believe me when you get back at the end of the day and you open the tent then it is a case of wow! Serve with bread and a glass of plonk and it is the perfect end to the day. Good thing is too if you do not have a slow cooker and go out and buy one you can also use it at home. Good luck and happy cooking!
We use a mini oven and have bbq's, with fresh meat from a local butcher sausages, marinaded chicken etc, whole fish iseasoned and wrapped in foil cooked in the coals with pasta in a sauce or i cook Chilli, Curry using a jar of sauce and add onions, peppers, mushrooms etc, pretty much the same as we do at home although like a previous post rarely a cooked breakfast. A bacon roll or two is a must though when were camping!! its the smell and fresh air.
I've just bough a 2 steamer from argos 9.99, 18cm pan with two steamer tiers and glass lid, I tried it last night, spuds in the water, carrots then brocolli and cauli on top it all cooked lovely, no mixing of flavors or colours.I will use it on a single burner stove in the awning, or on the stove as there was no more steam than normal, but it will mean i won't be stuck inside cooking/pan watching by myself. Having stuck to new spuds and tin peas etc before because of space (only two burners) at least we'll have a few more options, can't wait for our hols to try it out

I'm with you AngieGL! I don't do tinned meat either! there's always a butcher or supermarket near or on the way to your camp, we buy stuff on the day sometimes to eat at night...We've bought fish etc when we've camped by the sea too...
I've been looking at the mini ovens and wondered if they did work well, looks like they do! Off to wilko's tomorrow to get one! IBargain if only £15! love freshly baked rolls etc, with a good bit of butter of course!
We also do a quick minestrone bean soup with an onion, squished clove of garlic, tin of toms, some chopped mixed veggies (you choose), a tin of cannellini beans, bit of fried chopped bacon and some stock. fry onion and garlic, add bacon, then add veg and cook for a bit. Add tin of toms and stock and simmer for 1/2 an hour. then add beans and warm through. You can add some pasta in if you want too.
One quick one that my kids love is Smoked Haddock (undyed if possible) poached in milk and butter, serve fish and sauce with fresh bread and butter. OH likes new potatoes with his. (Think he just likes making me more washing up).
This is a tasty quick and low fat as its a weight watchers recipe. You need some onion, hot dog sausages or german sausage try different ones for different tastes smoked usually cut into chunks, mustard bout a tsp, tomato sauce a glug, worcester sauce a glug, pepper, skinned seeded and chopped fresh tomato, and a tin of beans. Soften onions in a frying pan then chuck everything else in according to taste. Cook till beans and sausage cooked then serve with crusty bread or rice. Crusty bread and glass of wine best.
